Most overrated movie of the past year?

ok, this is ~winter moonlight~, i just don't feel like logging out.

Lost in Translation.

And don't bother trying to change my mind.

And what I am really tired of is this "emperor's new clothes" effect it has on everyone. They think if the say that they like this film that they will sound intelligent or some such shit. It was an Ok movie. O-K; not great. Watch any other damn independent film and you will see the honesty, depression, and longing that Lost in Translation projected.

:p

^^^ indeed, and that's why i like most "other damn independant film". lost in translation, for me, is just a good example of what i do like about them :)

and don't give me that crap about sounding intelligent - just because some people do it doesn't mean everyone does. this is my favourite film of the year, and i'm sure i'd sound far more "intelligent", actually, if i ranted and raved about 21 grams, but it just isn't the case - i prefer lit.

i'll respectfully refrain from trying to convince you though, as long as you refrain from assuming that i only pretend to like the film to appear intelligent, 'cause that's just not how it is.

Your entitled to your opinion; thanks for not trying to change mine. ;)

And I didn't mean for it to sound like I don't like independent films; 75% of my movie collection is independent films. They are my absolute favorite. That's just part of the reason I didn't buy into the hype of this film. There are soooo many other films that capture what many say they love about this film, that are in my opinion, much better than this one. But thats just my opinion. And I didn't mean everyone just said they liked this film. (I know thats why I typed, I meant many.)
You seem to genuinely enjoy it, so good for you. It's just my experience that the few I've talked to don't have anything to back it up. But there are exceptions.

actually, if i ranted and raved about 21 grams,
i thought this was the best movie of the year....and yes i am intelligent. but it has nothing to do with psuedo-appearances.

^^^ don't stress, that's not what i meant. i *liked* 21 grams a lot, just didn't love it. it's just that i think it would serve as a better example of winter moonlight's theory, more so than lit anyway. i'm not insinuating that everyone who saw it is just lying about how much they liked it :)

Although Kill Bill was rubbish, I don't think it was overrated because all of the decent movie critics hammered it. I rate it highly as a comedy film, as it was a joke from start to finish.

Gus van Sant's Elephant, on the other hand, wasn't exactly a bad film, but was hugely overrated by the 'serious' critics who seemed to think there was a lot more to it than there actually was. It was well choreographed, but apart from that it was lazy film-making.
