most overrated albums

Outkast - Speakerboxx / The Love Below
Radiohead - Kid A
The Arcade Fire - Funeral

that's it for now...

^^ I agree, there is plenty of talent in Radiohead.

I think all the more popular artists and "divas" that just sing, but don't play any instruments or write their own music, but make millions off a pretty face and good voice.

Everything but radiohead' last effort i think is wonderful. As of late i think they're just getting lazy and stale.

9 times out of 10 if it's on the radio or TRL it's over-rated. Almost all modern R&B is absolute crap.. i had hope when people like Music Soulchild and Jill Scott began blowin up..but it's back to the poppy "i sound like every other black person that grew up singing in church" laced with wanna-be early 90s michael jackson-esque production, but doing duets to corny rappers...

Nirvana:Nevermind
Radiohead:Kid A
Interpol:Turn On the Bright Lights
Tom Waits:Rain Dogs
Captain Beefheart:Trout Mask Replica
Beck:Mutations
Bob Dylan:Highway 61 Revisited

Oh, and anything by "Bright Eyes." 8)

>>I'd have to say anything by limp bizkit, fred durst sucks balls>>

Doesn't everyone hate limp bizkit though?

>>Beck:Mutations>>

Weren't a lot of beck fans unhappy with mutations?

Nirvana:Nevermind

Bullshit. I know it's purely opinion, but Nirvana was like a mixture of punk rock and I don't even know what else, they didn't fit any genre, and yet they had millions of fans. I think it takes some talent to do that, even if the guitar riffs aren't the most complicated ever.
Cobain was a great songwriter, and with Grohl in the band I just don't see any lack of talent at all.

Overplayed Pixies ripoff -- so so so fucking overplayed, it bores me to death.

Can you even stand listening to this album anymore, honestly? To me, Smells Like Teen Spirit is the Gen-X equivalent of Stairway to Heaven lol.

good picks. I'd take "In Utero" over "Nevermind" any day. And all these dumbfuck hipsters that think "Bright Eyes" is the next best thing need their heads examined.

This is a dumb post to begin with though, because no one rates Limp Bizkit highly....selling many units of a shitty product does not make something "overrated."

Overrated is something that the critics adore for some odd reason, when in reality it just isn't that great.

To view some of the best examples of writers with their heads up their asses overrating bad shit, check out Rollingstone, Spin, or Pitchfork Media.

I have to say, I'm rather fond of The Arcade Fire's "Funeral." I think they're very original, have a lot of angular/mathematical feeling riffs and rhythms, and incorporate some interesting instruments. Also, their live shows are incredible, and the vocals kinda remind me of David Byrne.

i dont read any of them. ive been a radiohead fan for ages, that outkast double album is smooth as fuck, and the arcade fire is amazing. all three albums are on heavy rotation--- of course, im more partial to other radiohead albums, but i do not by ANY means think ANY radiohead (or outkast or arcade fire, for that matter) are overrated.

FD, I think saying music is "overrated" just means it received too much hype (sometimes unmerited) from critics, often resulting in an enormous mass appeal. It doesn't *necessarily* mean an album/band absolutely sucks or is terrible.

It depends on the musical tastes of whoever is overating it to bother considering something from your point of view overated, I agree with troutmask replica tho that albumn is fucking unlistenable.

Sn2, i understand. but i dont believe any of those albums were over-hyped. the arcade fire is a band that ive turned a lot of people on to-- without them ever hearing of the band and without me ever reading a review.
