Most harmful to the chest/throat: tobacco, weed or crack?

Small particle irritants and heat can harm the throat and lung, and obviously there are known or strongly suspected carcinogens to consider. Vaporising weed, that is, heating it until the thc crystals boil, turn into steam and are exhaled, is seen as much less harmful than smoking, which involves unnecessary inhalation of burning plant matter.

But crack- now, surely crack is the worst, right? It's got the worst rep.

Crack smoke however isn't actually smoke, it's a vapour. The heat of the vapour could be damaging. What else?

Crack is the worst from what i understand, it is associated with a number of respiratory problems that weed and tobacco do not cause.

But i'm too lazy to find what those problems are right now as i'm pretty stoned :D

That's what I'd heard but I've never been able to find out exactly why. This wouldn't particularly matter but I became curious when I realised that crack smoking involves an inhalation of vapours, a process urged as a safer alternative to inhaling smoke from burning vegetable matter.

i don't smoke crack so i'm too lazy to do extensive research on why it's bad but try searching on pubmed.

I don't know if you've ever seen the inside of a crackpipe, but it looks really nasty. Those vapors resolidify on the inside of the pipe and create a very hard layer of crack when the vapors cool down enough. Plus people tend to smoke crack with a constant direct flame. Crack needs a pretty high heat to actually vaporize and stay airborne long enough to be absorbed effectively, so its usually heated with a direct flame in a pipe that is about 2 inches long. The burnt lighter fluid and soot from flame, and the intense heat from flame being sucked through such a short pipe might end up being a worse health problem than the crack itself. But I would imagine that if you smoke enough crack there would probably be a bit of crack residue stuck in your lungs and plenty of black soot from your bic to go along with it.

For the same reason that snorting coke can put a hole in your nose over time, crack is definitely the most damaging. Because cocaine has such a strong local vasoconstricting effect, the lack of blood supply to the tissues involved can be harmful in a number of different ways.

crack is probably the worst. Idk , i have never smoked crack, so i cant relate experience, but, as EMJAY stated, i have heard also that coke can fuck up that divider 'cartilage-like' thing in ur nose, and if it fucks that up, to the point that hardcore snorters have had to have surgeries, just think what it would do to ur lungs and thoard

however, i wonder what people think about the harm from smoking fentanyl gel? I think that smoking that is probably worse than tobbacco and weed (well, i dont think it will cause cancer like tobacco but i'm talking strictly regarding the throat and chest)

^I'm bringing up fentanyl gel because when I smoke the gel, or only for 2-3 days have 1 a day, it totally hurts my chest...

i get a 'sore' throat (not a sick sore throat but just 'achey' throat)

i cant breathe as well as usual/cant take deep breathes

i know it cant be good, but just curious how it compares? my guess is that it is bad also b/c of all the shit they put in the script that one ends up smoking. Shit that totally is not meant to be smoked, lol

thats really interesting and really surprising

I know people who have smoked crushed up pills in blunts mixed with weed. I wonder how damaging to your lungs that is. It has to be pretty bad.

why is cannabis even listed along side of crack cocaine and tobacco? (smoking cannabis means just cannabis, not blunts (which are tobacco as well) or anything else besides pot).

^ Well, when cannabis is smoked normally and not vaporized, it is quite harmful to the lungs, some research suggests that it may be even more harmful than tobacco.

Their all bad for you. I would say their probably all equally bad for your chest and throat. This question is very vague and a little pointless. They all effect different parts of the body. I beleive that crack is the most damaging to your body and mind.

If the question is vague and pointless why are you answering it? You have contributed to the debate by pointing about that they affect different parts of the body. Thank you for your contribution.

I've started a debate. People responded because they clearly found it worth considering. So did you, apparently, but begrudgingly.

Yes, I found the question very vague and pointless. Thats why I expanded my answer to explain that crack is the worse drug on the body. I didnt mean to attack YOU by any means.

UCLA researchers found the cannabis has no significant health effects and doesn't increase chances of cancer

no significant negative health effects (but that it does increase like coughing, chances of catching a cold, etc., but that is just from SMOKING, if you vaporize these problems go away)

more and more evidence keeps surfacing of a link between heavy marijuana smoking and bullous lung disease. just because it doesn't cause cancer doesn't mean it isn't very damaging to the respiratory system.
