Most aggy town in the UK

the worst for this is probably aldershot because of the squaddies.

Forgot about Aldershite, good call.

Everyone always goes on about how rough Birmingham is but I don't get it really, lived there for a year now (well, uni year) and I've never even seen a fight when I've been clubbing. And I go clubbing a lot. In fact, the worst thing I've seen was probably something I was involved in myself. I haven't even noticed that many drugs around (probably because I mainly go to student nights with er... other students) apart from at one particular club. Then again, I'm used to going up to London a lot, been going to gigs in Brixton on my own since I was like, 15 so maybe I just don't notice/worry about dodgy-ness anymore?

Having lived in the vicinity of Brum and having had a few... dealings with certain areas and aspects of the place I can assure you it is pretty fukkin violent. Different to the type of violence you get in smaller places though. The latter tends to be especially noticeable cos it's almost always drunken morons at kicking out time puked out onto the streets all at once so it's easier to find another drunken moron to pick a fight over a kebab with. The one and only time I've had a gun pulled on me was Brum-related but I've seen far, far more acts of pure viciousness around kicking out time in small towns.

Thing is, it is still all about the P.L.U.R in most places in the UK, and that is what I love about the hardcore scene..
Hmmm, dunno, in Manchester the hardcore events don't have a whiff of PLUR about them. They're the only events I go to that regularly have fights.. not entirely pleasant atmospheres.

Yes but going clubbing in Manchester, a part of me goes expecting it to be rough. That being said, the last Bowlers party was alright.

There are some good parts of manchester, the outskirts, places like altrincham town center are usually quiet, occasionally some low-level to medium-level thuggery going on in and around the estates nearby. The navigation road area, especially the park, that attracts some proper knob'eads sometimes. Got stalked and chased by a big pack of fuckups round there, had to warn them off with the threat of having several containers of concentrated acid thrown in their face (I didn't end up actually doing so, but the sight and threat of the acid put them off, had my old man race up there in the car for an extraction of myself and the person with me)

And no, I don't usually carry acid around, I'd just bought it to restock after running out of H2SO4 and HCOOH and was in the process of going home, minding my own business, until I, and a (former, she turned out to be a real parasite and A-grade psycho-nitch fuckup) friend were on the way home, walking towards navigation metro stop, then got accosted by a dirty great crowd of pikey fuckwits, got followed, would almost certainly have got into a real ugly fight situation if it hadn't been for a bit of creativity on my part and managing to get a lift out of the area. We would have done a lot of damage to at least a few of them, think my (former) friend likely had her knife with her, and could have dropped a few in hand to hand, but there were too many of them for two people to take down, a couple of them were known hard-cases to boot. Not pretty either way.

Enfield. Reasons previously mentioned, everyone knows each other, grudges never go away as people keep bumping into each other week in week out. The pinnacle of violence was at a club called Eros which was situated in a unit on a retail park which meant people used to drive down there and have tire irons/crowbars/baseball bats and assorted weapons in their boot. If something kicked off inside it would get finished outside with something grabbed from the boot of a car. There used to be some absolute war in that carpark. The club met its demise when a bouncer got shot in the face for refusing entry to someone.

That kind of estate, especially, it seems, those with retail parks nearby, are always festering pestholes.

Oh and Doncaster is a bit of a dump too. Club wise they have the Dome and Donny Warehouse and it gets quite scary in there some nights. The DW crowd is well intimidating.

Horrible atmospheres, sketchy people, no thanks.

Guess that adds to the glamour for some people. Slight roughness I can live with, but macho bullshit less so.

That's deepest, darkest Cheshire. Get the fuck outta here.

The venues on the quay have recently shut now which is shit... re-opened for 3 years then shut again.. the underground place was one of the best places around here for music nights, alongside the phoenix and lemongrove.. did you go out in exeter alot?

Warehouse, Boxes and Boogies it was called the last time I went out there. Despite my entire family living in the area I've not actually lived there much, and when I have, I've only gone clubbing because I felt obliged to go with the lads from work etc. Timepiece was a bit better up town but still ropey. I'm not even going no to mention Arena.

Best nights out in Exeter were always in the Cavern for me, saw some quality British punk bands there in the early 2000s and also, bizarrely, Altern-8 one night, sounded epic in the Cavern!

Yeah I doubt you're going to places likely to see serious trouble though. Next time a grime promoter puts a night on go to that and see how you feel.=D

You get any illegal raves in Brum? Never hear of anything going on there and I've been going to free/squat parties for at least a decade now.

Huntingdon is bit of a dump. Featured in the Crap Town book that came out a while ago and made the cover.
The one nightclub we had in town was responsible for something like 70% of all violent crime in the whole of Cambridgeshire. It even featured on a Channel 5 programme about CCTV where they showed footage of a massive fight at the clubs entrance between bouncers & boozers.
Was closed down due to the trouble it attracted, thankfully.

It would be a lot easier to name the least aggy town.

I can imagine how shit Huntingdon is Max. I think people nominating Northampton need to get to Bedford to see real mindless violence on a regular basis. I can imagine what people say about Aldershot is true because I lived in Colchester and we had the same Friday night agro with the army. And Colchester had the army prison so we had the real nutters.

But provincial small towns are notoriously shit and violent, all of them. And if you go one stage smaller, the really small towns are worse. Where I came from, Friday night fun at 16 either involved shagging or fighting with the next town/village depending on what type you were. I went with the former. Nearly all my mates went with the latter.

Obvious point - take the alcohol away and watch the aggressiveness drop like a stone.

Actually yeah, someone mentioned Mansfield, one of the least favourite places I've done acid.

I think you meant scab miners towns. Oh hold on probably not, Barnsley is a shithole isn't it.

I wasn't a miner but I stood on picket lines and had the consequent aggy from the filth attempting to stop Thatchers imported foreign coal (from Poland, good ol' Solidarnosc).

Never mixed acid with picketing like...
