oh my goddd. I wish I would of read somewhere about the sedating and depressing effects of morphine sulfate before getting the prescription.

I went from Dilaudid (4mg's) to Morphine Sulfate IR (15mg's)

Loved Dilaudid...and completely couldn't stand MSIR.

The first couple days I felt sad and sedated on it (MSIR)....so I just hung in there and thought maybe it was just part of the switch or detox from Dilaudid. But the super sadness feeling always came on whenever taking MSIR... even a week later...It actually got better when I wasn't on it at all.

Yes, i'd rather cold-turkey detox....then be on this crap.. Never, ever, ever taking it again.

I'm even depressed now thinking that this was the med my mom was given as well on her death bed...this depressing crap.

Is it just me, or is the sedating and depressing effects of Morphine Sulfate just not mentioned anywhere on the net.. ? The mentions I saw on the internet were...that most people believed it was a similar high to H ...or almost the equivalent. I never tried H, but can't imagine if it was....how in the world people could be so nuts to be addicted to it. this stuff is HORRIBLE.

thoughts on Oxymorphine ? as i'm trying to get a doc appointment in quickly to make the switch.

thx much

Effect of Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) and Morphine is very similar the only difference is the potency IME. Its is sedating every opioids are but depressing ? Do you mean you feel bad or you feel slow minded ? Normally morphine is fun.
Anyway good luck on getting Oxymorphone.

I use morphine to combat depression, the apathy it produces is probably the best in the opiate class.
If you are feeling otherwise depressed, address it, don't just blame it on the medication.
Stay safe.

I definitely feel more euphoria / feel good feeling on Dilaudid.

The morphine sulfate feels like a depressing, sad feeling everytime I take it...and lasts around 2 hours. It just feels like a sad time...the whole time.

Very surprised neither of you experienced this.

Found more people agree'ing with me just now from google'ing -

more than 1 person in that thread saying the same.

I never feel 'otherwise' depressed. Only when taking morphine sulfate.

Well that's strange, though I don't doubt you.
Contact your doc ASAP, depression is horrendous in itself, coupled with lower inhibitions is a recipe for disaster.
I hope it works out for you.

I've gotta agree with John. I HATE morphine, which is strange because I loved H. Morphine gives me a case of the Sads every time for some reason. No euphoria at all. . No other opiate has this effect on me. I have a similar issue with lorazepam. All other benzos just destroy my anxiety. Lorazepam make me wanna eat a bullet the next morning. Weird paradoxical reaction I guess.

On I side note, I've never had morphine via IV. That could change the game I'm sure.

I appreciate the feedback so far though.

any additional opinions are appreciated.

seeing how hydromorphone is suppose to be 5 times stronger than morphine, I could completely understand if the 'sad' was from tapering down to MS IR ....but the 'sad' only seems to occur when taking the MS IR.

The longer away I am from the dosage, the happier I am. Quite the reverse as is typical. But those typical withdrawal symptoms I did correctly experience with hydromorphone.

Interesting experience regardless.

Any thoughts on Oxymorphone would be great.

I'm guessing there must be more of a euphoria effect with H then...the reports of studies or whatever indicating that users couldn't tell the difference between morphine and H...must of been some poorly conducted studies.

Poorly conducted, no, but taking into account the reactions that can occur with any pharmaceutical is difficult, at best.
Like a poster above, some can take potent anxiolytics and have a panic attack.

it's not odd for people to react better and get better results from a certain opioid. for me i dont like oxycodone very much (others seem to love oxy), but i really like buprenorphine and hydromorphone. some people dont even like opiates and dont respond well them at all. they think they are boring, and think the stimulants are much more euphoric.

you can try plugging the morphine and see if you get better results, but there is no way to change your neurochemistry to favor morphine.. lol...

morphine has the most side effects besides codeine if your not injecting it its pointless.

if you want to make your pills better cook them into morphine base theres links on bluelight smoking morph gives no constipation more euphoric doesent hurt stomach

heroin gives me this weird dream state before I fall asleep very hallucinogenic and euphoric no other opiate did this

Please don't advise people to smoke pills.

You know, I think my heroin is cut with morphine sulfate and I feel kind of sedated and a little sad too with this batch. But I blame it on the things in my life going on but maybe it's that. Who knows.

You are experiencing either A) something unrelated to the drug or B) a paradoxical reaction that I have never in my life heard of anyone experiencing while on morphine.

It's one of my favorite compounds that I thank the universe for every day, but everyone reacts differently to medication.

This thread is not really harm reduction related. You seem to already be switching medications which is the best advice you can get. /thread
