Morphine Sulfate - Oral Solution: Does it Go Bad or Expire?

A while back, I was prescribed some Morphine Sulfate for chronic pain resulting from a bad car accident. The morphine came as a blue liquid that is meant for drinking. The solution's potency is 10mg/2.5ml (or 4mg/ml for short). So my questions to all fellow blue-lighters are:

A.) Has anyone else ever had this, or the same stuff with a different potency before? If so, how did you like it and what did you think?

B.) If you have had it, how old was it when you used it or how long did you hold on to it?

C.) For those of you who have had it, in your experience, does this liquid morphine go bad or lose it's potency over time?

The bottle was prescribed back in June of 2010, so it would be approaching 4 years now in age.
Thanks for any input, fact or opinion.

ps: I can post a picture of the bottle (with all personal info censored of course) if it would help. Just let me know.

man, assuming its an oral preparation, there could be some ingredients there that may be could go bad, though that is a very uneducated guess and i might be completely wrong.

my closest experience to this is paregoric (which is 0,5mg/ml) and these i'm very sure don't go bad due to it being like 50% alcohol.

it MIGHT lose a bit of its potency too, but not necessarily - i've had some expired morphine pills that were definitely less potent.

my advice would be take 5-7,5ml (20-30mg) and see how you feel. if it has not gone bad you should be able to catch a nice buzz (assuming no tolerance)

A friend of mine used a bottle of morphine from vietnam when we were younger and it was fine, but it wasn't an oral solution. The potency wouldn't change. I've used expired bottles of hydrocodone syrup with no problem. I think it'd be fine.

All of my oral morphine sulphate bottles explicitly state to consume within 12 weeks of opening.

The fact that it's been sealed (I'm guessing?) for ~4 years is a different story. Is there an exp. date on it?

Just looked at one of my bottles dispensed last week and it expires on November 2016, so to be consumed 2 1/2 years after it's prescribed. Though obviously the time taken from manufacturing, to pharmacist, to me would differ massively.

I'd say it's just lost a bit of potency... Test the waters on the first dose.
