Opioids Morphine Sulfate (MR)?

I recently got the shit beat out of me this week and my Doctor gave me Diclofenac 25mg every 12 hours. I have two cracked ribs (They got cracked before 6 months ago) so now they REALLY hurt and make sleep impossible. However I can walk around ok. I also got a cracked shoulder that makes typing (my profession) quite the bitch.

I can order Morphine Sulfate MR capsules. It's listed as "sustained release". Is this another way of wording extended release? I'm fine with that I just need relief. Before I go and order these I wanted to know peoples thoughts on morphine. These come in 30mg caps. Not sure the amount some would suggest.

This is cheaper and seems better than DHC.

Any help is appreciated.

It's a much better painkiller than dhc, for sure, because it's far more powerful. Have you had substance dependency issues in the past, though? Morphine can be far more addictive than dhc, it may even be overkill for your needs.

I'm not sure if they're the same as extended release. I'd assume so, but you should contact the pharmacy for clarification. (Extended release is better for pain imo).

I have a past but the cost to get these ordered is a lot so there's no chance I'd order these again. My preferred OC/Roxi's I can't locate atm at a price I can afford.

I'm waiting for my Doctor who happens to be a guy I can be honest with and tell him to PLEASE call in a script with ZERO refills of Hydros or Percs. I'm even telling him I don't want to resort to "other" methods to get the pills, but I need help. He should call back. Otherwise I gotta wait til Friday when I got cash and just go the "southern route".

I'm just in a lotta of pain right now so I'm stressed, waiting for a reply from my Doctor hopefully tonight. I've been taking Etizolam to try to sleep. Sucks big time. I gotta sit up and my couch sucks.

Thanks for the tip about extended release. I forget I'm not trying to get high and don't need OC CR (like the old purdues). I simply need pain relief.

That's a very wise way to go about it: just take them for pain relief. Just hang in there mate, until you get to see your doc. Taking hot baths can really help pain a lot. Are you having any luck with otc stuff? If I'm in pain,I take 3 paracet, 3 ibuprofen and that works pretty damn well actualy. There are also some highly effective nsaids out there far better than ibuprofen, although you need a script for them I believe.

I've had cracked ribs in the past, and they can be a serious bitch especialy when you can't sleep. It's probably good you're not going for oxys though; I don't know a lot about US pharms, but I believe oxycodone is almost as strong as heroin? Where I live, an opiate of that strength would only be given to terminaly ill patients ie cancer etc. So going for something like vicoden would be a good choice imo.

400mg of ibuprofen is a more effective painkiller for most people than even 10mg IM morphine.[ref]. You would be suprised. Load up on ibuprofen and try to stay unconcious.

The "strength" of opioids doesn't really correlate to their potency to form dependency very well. People can get dependent on codeine if they use it too much. Don't ever be fooled into thinking that some opioids are non-addicting...

Regular use of oxycodone, or morphine, or even tramadol will lead to dependency. Just be mindful of that.

And to answer OP, "sustained release" is just another way to say extended release.

Thanks for the help guys. Ended up getting some Roxi's. Too impatient for my Doctor. I know I should have waited, but I simply had to and now I feel a sigh of relief something will be here soon. I'm aware the relapse risk I brought upon myself, but TBH I couldn't afford this as a habit. I don't have the income I did when I was "self employed". I gotta turn these 10x30mg Roxi's into 20x15mg and last me a month.

For the record I was prescribed Diclofenac 25mg every 12 hours which is a prescription NSAID.

Thanks sekio for answering my question regarding MR and ER.
