Hello all....looking for a little info, hoping this is the right spot. Background- Subject has aggresive heart disease, and has had two heart attacks several years ago with 3 stents placed. Is in horrible muscle pain due to statin drugs, but is currently off of them to give the muscles a rest. Subject has had morphine before, in a ER setting, at 2.5 mg thru IVs, for chest pain due to angina, at 2 hour incriments. A consort of the subject gave them a morphine ER tab of 15mg. Is it safe for them to take it? The pain is off the charts, but doesn't want to do anything stupid. Has a moderate opiate tolerance (Vicodin off and on) currently coming off of a script of 20 vicodin, averaging 3 a day. Can anyone shed some light on what subject should do? Not looking for a high, just pain relife. And maybe what they could expect when they take it. They will be very appreciative and can bake cookies upon request.

Morphine is a pretty good painkiller for acute pain but it is very poorly aborbed by almost every route. 15mg ER morphine will be about 2.5mg IV if eaten whole. It may not be enough with your tolerance but it will help somewhat.

Side effects include: mausea/vomiting, decreased level of conciousness, decrease in blood pressure/heart rate/respiratory rate.

You may also want to consider seeing a doctor; generally crippling pain is not good.
