Opioids Morphine hurts?

I can't find anything about this anywhere on the internet, I wonder if it's only me. Of all the times I've ever done morphine (well over a dozen), IV or IM, I have always been burdened by a certain heaviness, and a tightness/tenseness/soreness in my neck and shoulders, which seems to hinder the buzz, not to say I've never gotten euphoria from it. It's just that hydrocodone and other things I have tried, in various dosages, feel much cleaner in this regard, none of the body load, and seemingly more euphoria. Though everything I read makes it sound like morphine is where it's at as far as the euphoria. I know every drug affects everyone differently, but as a "gold standard", I find that hard to believe unless what I'm experiencing is very rare. Is this a common side effect that I'm not reading about anywhere, or is it just me? And I find myself wondering how heroin would compare in this regard....

Could be from the histamine release. Morphine esp when ivd has a strong pins and needles feeling, i usually feel it in my face and hands but prob wouldnt be uncommon to feel it other places.

I have heard of the "pins and needles" effect, just was figured it was a tingling and different from what I'm describing, I don't know. The best way to describe the feeling is almost like a soreness from a lactic acid buildup from a workout, though it doesn't require movement to be felt. The difference from the "lactic acid" sore muscle feel is the heaviness and tenseness I feel, and again it is most entirely in the neck and shoulder region....

have you gone with lower doses and still experienced this?
I don't iv..but have been iv'd several times thru hospital and haven't experienced the tightness
anywhere but in my belly and chest...
yay kidney stones!
i know I say this alot..but every body. every drug. every body's effects from the drug? different.
It may just not be for you.

best of luck!

You might have a sensitivity to morphine. It is not uncommon for people to get side-effects from one opioid and not others. Is it like a heaviness in your chest that seems worse if you lie on your back? Or is it like a heart-burn kind of feeling? Or just achy muscles feeling?

Whenever I take morphine in large amounts regardless of route, my neck and shoulders get stiff as well. Antihistamines certainly do help so I believe it is caused by the histamine release that is especially pronounced in morphine. NSAIDs and hot compresses can be useful as well.

It may not be the MOST common side effect of morphine or other opioids but it's common enough that I've seen it mentioned lots of times over the years around here.

It seems the thebaine-derived semi-synthetics (hydrocodone, oxycodone, etc.) induce less histaminergic activity than morphine and codeine-derived opioids do. I'm no biochemist, though.

Personally I love the pins and needles, the dead legs and the heaviness behind the eyes. ...Once I realised it probably wasn't going to kill me, that is.

My most euphoric opiate high ever, was from a combination of poppy pod tea and oral morphine. I am a heroin addict, and I love the rush of IV so heroin is my opiate of choice. However, I have to admit that the high from pod tea plus morphine beat out any high I have ever gotten from heroin and lasted way longer too.

Cane2theLeft that answer sounds about what I'm looking for. I always thought it was probably related to histamine, but wondered why it was never listed amongst histamine related side effects like itchy skin or flushing or whatever, I would think actual pain from morphine would be more notable as a side effect than that more minor stuff....perhaps it is a rarer side effect, but I definitely feel it only with morphine or codeine at various strength levels, never with hydro/oxy/hydromorphone etc.....I've always felt like I'm missing something having never tried the big H, but if that would have that same neck/shoulder feel for me then I wouldn't imagine I'd be missing much and would be better off dreaming of trying the right amount of some dilaudid someday...

Being that it's natural and so heralded, I truly am astonished that I would prefer oral hydrocodone 30-50 mg to morphine IV of probably any amount.

No psychological placebo thing going on here, cause I would love to love morphine...

Yeah, lots of people simply prefer the semi-synthetics over opiate alkaloids and I count myself among them.

Whereas pruritis (itchiness) is exceedingly common as a side effect with sufficient doses, this probably only affects single digits of morphine users so it's not listed as frequently as other side effects that are far more common.

Off subject, when I was prescribed hydrocodone, I noticed the euphoria in larger doses but the pain killing properties are minimal
at best...at least for me. Maybe a combination ???

I can only imagine this side effect must be fairly rare, though I'm still surprised I couldn't find it specifically referred to online, and wonder from other folks responses whether maybe some different folks experience this same sensation, just in other areas of their body (which seems strange but who knows?). I also wonder if this for me is possibly just an intense version of the "pins and needles" effect, being that I really have never heard that effect explained in a way I felt I could relate to, I always imagined it meant a tingly prickly feeling all over, which I can't say I've ever noticed....

I must say, I find it fascinating the idea behind how you say some folks simply prefer the semi-synthetics over the natural compounds, I wonder how much different if at all heroin would feel, considering it is semi-synthetic, though then you have all of that "pro-drug" business with it converting into mostly morphine in the end.

I can't lie, I love science and learning in general. It fascinates me how human anatomy and physiology is laid out, and how drugs can exert their effect (though I know relatively little technical info at the moment, and much is not even understood as of now by anyone anywhere). It is amazing how drugs of all types work, and equally interesting how they can act differently on different people. Naturally my insatiable curiosity called me to start experimenting with the drugs that you can feel, the ones that affect your mind, and it's been a chemical infatuation ever since. After some fairly rough lessons in life and experiencing enough of the negativity, I am trying now to have a more mature approach as a handle on things, and return to my original intention of experimenting in the proper manner if at all and not for the sole sake of "partying", as well as really learning and understanding my stuff, which is the reason for this thread. I appreciate the information I have gleaned off of all the responses, and would be excited to hear anything additional.

As for the off topic personal info, I threw that in there so anyone might better understand my angle and why I am making a deal out of something relatively minor, pure curiosity and the desire to learn/understand......

For a very long time it was believed that the effects of heroin were almost exclusively from the conversion to morphine but actually they've recently discovered that most of heroin's effects are first produced by the conversion to 6-monoacetylmorphine which then converts to morphine later on.

On another topic, I'm reading a book titled "Over the Influence" that focuses on helping people to moderate their use and manage it more responsibly. It's essentially a way for people who are unwilling to completely quit drugs to learn more effective ways to reduce their use and use in ways that are less harmful and destructive.
