I've been raising my morphine dosage since I started taking it. I used to take oxycontin 120mg then I started slowly with morphine, took first times 30mg as prescribed, thought it would be a huge step from 30 to 60 but it was almost unnoticeable, then I did 90 and had my first morphine high, then 120 and felt almost nothing, now I'm taking 150 and almost feeling nothing, is it safe to raise from 30 to 30mg? Try 180 next time? It's instant release pill.

Oral morphine's bioavailability is really bad... its like 50% (plus or minus). So if you take 180mg, you're actually only getting 90mg (roughly). You should be fine, esp. if you felt almost nothing with 150.

I've noticed that morphine tolerance can rise quickly when dosing in this manner.
Apples and oranges: Kinda like phenibut tolerance; a few high doses and one can forget about the recreational aspect (from experience). One will have to take a break from it for a while....

It's even lower than that, It's around 25%. Oral Morphine is useless u need high doses to get any therapeutic effect and then tolerence kicks in and you'll find yourself having to dose MASSIVELY! Morphine is best kept for IV use only imo. Your MUCH better off with Hydrocodone or Oxycodone as they have high bioavailability.

EDIT: Hydrocodone BA = 80%. Oxycodone BA ~87%.

Yeah, its pretty much useless lol Like you said, the only way to take morphine is IV (NOT IVing pills, actual medicine meant for IV).

You can relatively safely IV pills if you filter them through a Micron filter ( theyre also reusable twice) its a device you stick your syringe into and have your solution pass through and you can get sets of 100 for a bout 30-50$ US depending where you order from itll filter out pretty much all pill fillers etc making them 'safer' to IV i say safer because iv is never really safe

No, morphine's oral bioavailability is ~33%
Hence why oral morphine is a 1 on the opioid scale and IV morphine is a 3.

is this right? ^^^^^^^
edit: to be so versed in morphine i must admit i am ignorant and not very well-read on it. just a user/abuser at times

Thats why I said "plus or minus", because everyone is different. ;) In my pharmacology classes, ive had SEVERAL Doctors (who specialize in pain management) say its "around" that. (now "around" isn't an exact number)

It depends on the individuals metabolism too. If your a "slow metabolizer" u might get upto 40% if your lucky. But either way its got a low BA and it should be avoided orally, its a complete waste and I don't know why doctors aren't concerned by this. Imo the best opioids for oral use when BA is concerned is Hydro/Oxy-codone. Heck even Methadone would be more effective orally for treating pain.

EDIT: Pethidine has got a decent BA orally (~60% ) but it's rarely prescribed now.

Actually i specifically asked my pain managment doc ( im a chronic pain sufferer) if methadone would work for pain, he said No and that its mostly used for getting off junk
