I am a chronic pain sufferer taking 100 mg morphine by mouth 2 times a day. I have phlebotomy skills as well as a bottle of 15 mg/ml iv/ im morphine. I want a break tonight from pain and was wondering what my starting (iv) dose should be. I tried 1 ml (15mgs) i.m. a while ago, but I guess because of my opiate tolerance, I did not feel much at all. I weigh 220 pds. thanks in advance

You have to break through your tolerance to feel anything...

Since you have about roughly 25-30 mg in you at any given time on the pills, you need that much to at least have adequate pain relief.

Or are you putting this on top of the pills?

and a buzz... not sure why, every once in a while, that it is a bad thing for folks that live in pain every single day... it's just hard to get "buzzed" w such a high tolerance, that's why the iv morphine looked appealing :)

I get the lol... ended up pushing 3 mls (45 mg), no cute little insulin syringe for me :) It was nice, good buzz. "Next time" I'd try to cram 1 more ml into the 3 ml syringe, or at least 1/2, that would have been perfect. But geez, anymore and I'll have to set a cath, etc, etc... not worth it!!!! Thanks for the honest responses
