Hey guys,

been dealing with chronic back pain for almost a year. Doc's started me on morphene sulphate (20-30mg/day oral) did this for about 2 months then moved to oxycodone. Started at 15mg/day but got as high as 35mg/day, I started to not get any pain relief so I wanted to stop but feared withdrawl so I got prescribed tramadol. Was using about 200-250mg/day then tapered down to 100mg/day for a couple weeks, 50mg/day for a week and then 25mg/day for 3 days. Saturday (May 10th) was the last dose, I've felt some hotness/coldness throughout the day on Sunday and Monday, I have had some trouble sleeping and woke up in a cold sweat Sunday night, but today I feel pretty much normal.

So my question is, is the worst over? I expected a lot worse withdrawal since I was pretty much using pain meds for 5-6 months straight. I suppose tapering to a very low dose helped, but I honestly feel totally normal today pretty much 80hrs after my last dose. I still have about 40x 50mg tramadols and have zero desire or cravings to use them (I never really got much of a "high" from the tramadol compared to the oxy).

Both Oxycodone and tramadol are short acting and tolerance builds up fast, It doesnt surprise me they stopped providing relief either!

Concerning w/ds, you havent been using that long, so your w/ds probably wont be too bad, i remember w/ds from tramadol loooong ago, they seemed to last about 4-6 days and that was about it, but I still had the mental craving for them, what you described sounds about right tho...cold to hot to cold again, sweaty, insomnia, etc. plus it seems whatever drug I go thru w/d with, I get this very nasty smell I cant seem to avoid, like a furnace-y type burning smell, hard to explain, but I smell it wherever I go when Im w/ding, its actually so nasty sometimes, I feel like puking from it! Ive been told this is due to hypersensitivity though.

The first withdrawal from an initial dependency (especially a low dose opiate dependency like yours was), is normally not very bad at all. What you experienced is pretty much what it's like the first time at that level. However, it happens faster and gets worse every time, and infinitely worse at repeated detoxes at higher doses of opiates.

So, consider yourself lucky and don't go back to them, as the next time wont be as easy.
