I'm not sure where I stand on this one. On the one hand now that I have been able to regulate my cannabis intake it has presented zero problems and a lot of good times. On the other hand, I was heavily addicted to cannabis for 4 years blowing literally every dime I had on the stuff. I tried to quit so many times, wanted to quit, but always came back because of the withdrawl symptoms and 'culture'.
I'm all for legalized legislated cannabis sale to persons over the age of 18. I don't agree with selling to kids who can abuse the product. I finally understand why my parents freaked out so much when they found my pipe at age 16, not because weed is some horrible drug, but because at a young age I don't think people are always equipped with the decisionmaking and willpower skills to handle it. Now that I am an adult (20) I can smoke weed around my parents, drink alcohol, whatever suits my fancy as long as I don't overindulge.
Not trying to piss off any of you underage smokers out there, I was one also, but I do wish I had waited until 18 and not wasted so much of my time in highschool. Of course there is exceptions, some people *are* equipped to handle cannabis intake at a young age but I would have to say underage use is still (in my mind) for the most part detrimental. I remember many beautiful schooldays spent skipping out at the park, laying in the sun smoking joints and having a blast. While this was a lot of fun, I think it could have waited a couple years.
I guess my final verdict would be that we should just present the information in a clear and truthful manner to kids so hopefully they can make the right decisions for themselfs without parents having to force the hand.
