Police seize hallucinogenic drugs from Edinburgh flat

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/8611102.stm

Hallucinogenic drugs with a street value of £35,000 have been seized from a flat in Edinburgh.

Officers recovered 3.5kg of mescaline from an address in Nicolson Street on Thursday.
A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested on various charges relating to possession and supply of the Class A drug.

They are both due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court later on Friday.
Mescaline is a naturally occurring psychedelic found in several cactus species in South America.

The drug can cause dizziness, vomiting and in some cases the hallucinatory visions can lead to nightmares and cause psychotic reactions.

note that it doesnt say the positive (and main) effects of mescaline eh?
yet again more biased bullshit.

i keep telling my mates that psychedelics are making a comeback in scotland this year..
while it was seized, the fact it was 3.5kg is a great sign!!

lol look at the pic

Looks like powdered cacti to me, probably just some torch or pedro. 10 pounds a gram for crystal? nahhh

Biased bullshit article with retarded pricing to match no doubt. These are most likely normal psychonauts being labeled big drug dealers by the media. Bullshit.

Wait, isn't the active dose of Mescaline quite high? How on Earth could it be worth £3,500?!

I thought it was the norm to have 300-600mg of Mescaline, perhaps even more, I doubt he could sell a hit for more than £200...

German police seized 1.3 tons of cocaine

BERLIN—German police said Tuesday they had seized a record haul of 1.3 tons of cocaine with an estimated street value of €40 million ($54 million) and made seven arrests.

"This is the biggest amount of cocaine ever seized in Germany," police said in a statement.

Customs officers discovered the drugs on Monday while searching pallets of wood briquettes at Hamburg, Germany's biggest port.

Thirty-one of the 32 pallets searched also contained packets of cocaine "very professionally hidden" among the briquettes, the police said.

Officials seized a total of 1,244 packets of "very high purity" cocaine imported from Paraguay.

The seven suspects, aged between 27 and 35, were arrested in connection with the bust. Six of them were already behind bars on Tuesday, a police spokesman told AFP.

The two main suspects are a Paraguayan citizen, 35, who lives in Hamburg and a 31-year-old German citizen of Turkish origin.

Some 200 police officers conducted 19 searches in Hamburg and the German states of Schleswig-Holstein and North Rhine-Westphalia. At the home of one 28-year-old suspect, police said they found €450,000 in cash.

Police said they became aware of the international cocaine trafficking network following a small three-kilo cocaine bust and arrests in November.

Police have also identified the cocaine dealers in Paraguay who were involved in concealing the drug in the pallets of wood briquettes, which were shipped from Asuncion to Hamburg.

Congratulations. You just saw the tip of the iceberg, after it has been sinking your ship for 100 years. Keep shoveling water with tablespoons. :D

it was NOT pure extracted mescaline hcl.
it was just shredded cacti.

as usual the police like to over-exaggerate...

once its shredded it becomes a class A substance (prepared for use).

source: my friend knows the dude they busted.

Shit, that is a lot of coke!
I am not a fan of coke at all, but it really is just a refined plant...
Which nature / God / Allah / etc. put on the earth.
Should people really go to jail for buying and selling such a thing?

I think if you refine it then its no longer just a plant IMO

DUBAI // An Arab man has been charged with possession with intent to sell 4.2 million fake Captagon pills following Dubai’s biggest seizure of the amphetamines.

The unidentified suspect, who was arrested on November 11 last year, allegedly smuggled the pills into the UAE in 148 textile rolls through the Jebel Ali Port and stored them in a warehouse in Al Ghusais.

An Interpol notice will be issued for another person believed to be residing in an Arab country who is suspected of masterminding the operation, said Waleed al Fuqai, the head of narcotics prosecution in Dubai. He declined to provide specifics.

The pills – stamped with a Lexus car logo – are believed to be fenethylline, a prescription drug sold under the brand name Captagon.

The drug, which is on the UAE’s controlled drugs and narcotics list, has become a popular among recreational users in the Arab world, and is also used by women as a weight-loss aid and students who want to stay awake while cramming for examinations.

The drugs were to be re-exported, prosecutors said yesterday at a press conference.

The defendant allegedly stored most of the drugs in 4,200 bags, each of which contained more than 900 pills. Police estimated they could have been sold on the street for Dh210 million (US$57.2m).

The defendant was also charged with consumption of narcotics, possession of psychotropic drugs and consumption of psychotropic drugs. He could face a life sentence if convicted.

The drugs arrived on board a ship and were to be transferred to Saudi Arabia, Dubai Police said last November.

Major Gen Abdul Jalil Mahdi, the head of the anti-narcotics department, said at that time that a three-week operation led to the seizure, which was prompted by a tip-off from Saudi authorities.

A UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) report issued in July 2008 said that Saudi Arabia had experienced a sharp rise in Captagon abuse.

Saudi authorities seized 12.3 tonnes of the drug in 2006 compared with 291kg just three years earlier, the report said. The UN office also ranked Saudi Arabia as the biggest consumer of stimulants in the region.

Such stimulants are often trucked in from Bulgaria and Turkey through Syria and Jordan before being distributed throughout the Gulf, the UNODC report said.

Mr al Fuqai said local consumption of Captagon has declined in recent years.

“The seizures, arrests and prosecutions made reduced and slowed down the trade in the country and a notable decline has been registered,” he said.

“Pills used to cost five to 10 dirhams before and now they are sold at 30 to 50 dirhams, which proves the decline in its numbers.”

Almost 1,500 people were arrested in Dubai last year for drug peddling, consumption and possession, Major Gen Mahdi said. There is a zero-tolerance policy on drug use in the UAE.

1,500 people arrested for selling drugs in Dubai- further proof that repressive punitive measures don't work as long as there is a demand there will be people crazy enough to supply.

life in prison for smuggling amphetamine pills.

Regardless of the 56M USD they would have been sold for, that's just strait up not worth the risk. Sucks for the guy who got caught.

Randomly reminded me of the movie Midnight Express.

Whoa those are harsh punishments! These guys should learn from mexico, start a giant cartel and dominate with superior firepower. Violence is bad, but these drug laws are worse.
