Hey guys, my friend and I were trying out a new technique to help our weed and what not, but long story short we left the orange peel in the box too long and it molded on the orange peel and what not. My weed was stored in a baggy rolled up in the same container (which is a metal box around the size of a brick). There was a good bit of mold on the orange peel, but there is no mold whatsoever on the marijuana. I've also smelled the marijuana and smells completely normal, same with how it looks. I think it should be safe to smoke, but I was hoping for your opinions.

If there is mould on the orange and the orange was sealed up in the baggie with the weed; chances are the bud will have mould on it that is just not visible to the naked eye yet.

No no... like sorry I didn't clarify... what I meant was... there was a small bud we were testing in the orange peel, which we of course threw away ( :( ) ... the orange peel wasn't in a bag or anything. just sitting in there. the rest of my stash... a lil less than an 1/8th... was in a bag of its own rolled up.... yeah. thanks for the replies guys, just trying to chill with mary tonight! but not if she's gonna make me sick! Lol

nah dude in that case youll be perfectly fine. just dont leave peel in so long next time. now you now how fast the moisture drains out of it!

The mold is a microscopic mycelial network. Its much more than just the visible portion-- if there was visible mold in the bag, the whole contents of the bag are infected with mold despite it not being visible in all areas.

if the bag was isolated and sealed (ie: air tight), you should be good.

If not, it's not really worth inhaling mold and risking infection. I've lost an O to mold, a slice isn't much to complain about :)

But hey, you'll probably smoke it regardless.

i wouldnt be too concerned with mold. if your bud had mold on it, i would just remove the mold and smoke what wasnt moldy.

after all, you are putting a flame to this stuff. and any mold that lives off dried plant matter isnt going to infect your lungs.

^ not true. the most dangerous part of mold is the invisible spores. they don't get instantly vaporized by heat.

Wrong quote of the week! Congratulations, sir! Smoking any moldy product is extremely dangerous.

ps: I have a poster of your avatar on my wall. Nice.

Ya don't smoke mold. It sounds like you stash was safe though. In the future if you need to freshen up a sack try storing it in the fridge (if you can). If not I would just smoke it as is. I know orange peels and celery and the lot are popular but, IMO the risk isn't worth the reward.

just because you inhale spore doesnt mean that it will cause infection. you inhale spore every day. the mold that would grow on cannabis is not the mold that will germinate into your lung tissue

im not saying to straight up cultivate some mold and smoke it, but i think people are overly paranoid about fungus

nah, psyghost, i gotta stop this here -
its misinformation.
we are talking microscopic particles here. it only takes a very minute amount to cause a bacterial infection in your lungs.

this is in the same league with smoking mushrooms.
(to anyone who does this - enjoy the "benefits" of inhaling a FUNGUS.
oh and also the only effects are placebo)

you cant simply scrape off the mould that forms on cannabis. just because it is on ganja doesnt mean its safe.
it could be any multitude of fungal species.
spores are in the air.
take a moist piece of peel, exposed to the air, and place it in a container with ganja for TOO LONG and the fungus will start to grow.

smoke that shit, and its just common sense that a vast majority will be carried either -

A= through the smoke drawing through infected plant material (in a joint) and pulling spores with it from the unburned bits of the joint
or
B= through the airflow which would draw in spores from underneath or to the side of burning bud in a pipe or bong.

either way, no matter what -
you will still be inhaling fungal spores.
I, myself personally, have become sick from doing just this.
had some very moist bud i bought, sampled some, noticed mould, didnt know what i just told you, thought id be fine, and got dog sick
hawking up weird looking mucus the next week. during and after smoking i was fine though.
wasnt till a few days of smoking it that i started to get the "effects".

however, i have smoked bud with a much lesser amount of mould on it (like a few tiny specs) and been fine.

from the sounds of things OP, since your bag was closed, and wrapped up and put in the box, i doubt any mould got into your stash.

next time just keep a close eye on things as cannabis buds absorb moisture FAST

why would you get a bacterial infection from a fungus?

and picking off the mold isnt that bad of an idea, and definitely not misinformation. just because there is visible mold does not mean that the fungus is in spore. it is fruiting, yes, but not necessarily releasing spore. if you remove the mold, then there will be residual mycelium in the cannabis, but not much. mold isnt like a basidomycete. it does not need a complex system of mycelia prior to fruiting.

so if the mold hasnt released spore, then you would only be inhaling bits of mycelia (though it will have been ignited).

its true that the mycelium could have toxic chemicals, but thats not even what is being discussed here. people are talking about infections, fungal infections, caused by the inhalation of spore. as if the spore, upon inhalation, germinates into your lung tissue causing some type of infection.

I wouldnt be to worried, the biggest mold you would have to worry about is aspergillus, but as long as you have a normal immune system, you shouldnt be effected..

In the end you have to know what the mold is that is on your bud. Not all molds even cause negative reactions with humans. But like i said in my previous post, I wouldnt go out of my way to smoke a bowl of mold. Don't forget that the mold that is growing on the bud...it didn't just spontaneously create itself out of nothing. It grew out of spore that was already on the bud. Without a doubt we all smoke spore all the time.
