Modern day hipsters

@undead: friends don't let friends drink cheap beer. I've had a grand total of one PBR in my life, and while it was drinkable it certainly wasn't worth drinking. It's like fast food: just because it's edible, doesn't mean that it's food.

I have no real opinion about hipsters. Fashion is fashion, and there are both cool people and twats in every subculture. The relative ratios may be skewed in some, but stereotypes are still stereotypes.

People have a tendency to take popular trends too far and make them uncool. This cycle will repeat ad naseum.

Yup! But something uncool will become cool again 20 years later.
Hipster clothing all came from the 80's, so I'm predicting that MC Hammer pants and baggy Cross Colours apparel will make a comeback within the next decade.

I would say the modern day hipster/scene kid is just the youth version of todays yuppies.

Q: How many hipsters does it take to change a light bulb?

A: It’s some obscure number. You’ve probably never heard of it.

Hipster bingo isn't hard enough - the piece d' resistance should be "that one guy who's actually legit that all the hipsters look up to, but couldn't give a fuck about them."

I'm sorry I always thought PBR was a redneck beer....my bad?

It's just that I knew this one guy when I worked in a factory who talked about how much he loves the whole redneck scene: hunting, fishing, smoking marbs, pick-up trucks, collecting scrap metal for money/fun, being a loud asshole and not giving a shit, and he seemed to think that drinking PBR was right along in the mix with everything else he did.
I've always associated it with him ever since then.

I lived in hipster central for a couple of years, the suburb was the hotspot for them.. it was right on a central cafe strip, close to the city and most of the shops and bookstores in the area were known for been 'alternative'.

Up until this point, i had no idea what a hipster was.. but now they were around every corner. I didn't mind though.. i had dreadlocks, cargo's and torn/dirty shirts at the time.. they took the attention off me :)

Nothing worse than than dudes who wear girl pants so tight.... I do not know how they can feel straight dressed in pretty much spandex jeans... Every time i see a dude in those pants i think in the back of my mind he is gay or bi... does anyone else get this assumption when men wear these spandex jeans

I don't neccessarily question their sexuality so much as their judgment and sense of self-identity. I mean, I can't imagine how uncomfortable those must be. It seems like a lot of discomfort just to identify with a particular scene.

You are right though. It is most likely a redneck beer. That's why hipsters like it ironically. That's a big part of the hipster manifesto. They like things before everyone else, they like things that are alternative to the mainstream. If they do like something that's liked by everyone else, then they acknowledge how embarrassed they are to like something that's "so cliched" (as long as they make their awareness of something being 'tacky' known, they are free to pass amongst the other hipsters.)

I wear skinny jeans. I'm used to them. The trend may have started off amongst hipsters, but around here, most guys my age have been wearing them for a few years now.

So in order to be cool you have to admit that it's not cool, but you like it anyway?
How ironic!

I think I'm getting the hang of this hipster thing.
