I'd like to make a complain against OverDone.

He deleted one of my threads and moved it to another forum, the idea of my thread was to help people in TDS, people in conflict and sickness share what help's them in the morning, what can be the hardest part of the day when your suffering an illness/personal problem. He/She moved it to some other forum with a similar thread. TDS doesn't want to hear hear about "oh i took an eight ball of speed it was brilliant" i wanted to promote "harm prevention" and eventually lead the conversation to legal herbal remedies like herbal tea, mindfulness and meditation. definite "mod fail" he/she was a little over eager there. if you could see fit to restoring the thread in TDS it would be much appreciated.

much love and peace

If he moved the thread then he must've given you a good reason as to why, btw he's an admin now and in the red lettering you asked for admin attention so maybe he'll see this and respond soon.

the reason he gave is that it had already been covered in a separate forum that's all, but TDS is a different kettle of fish than the other forums

edit: i don't call that a 'good' reason considering my argument, hopefully we can sort this out :)

Complaints about mods/admins are usually made in this forum if there has been an ongoing problem, but you can pm him about it.

^don't worry got all bases covered :) i pm him first but though i should be thorough like i said before TDS is about helping people, someone recovering from meth addiction doesn't need someone bragging about how much he smoked when he woke up, catch my drift?

edit: but i do understand, still getting to know to the ropes, i am a greenlighter after all :)

Schiz, your thread was inappropriate for TDS for a couple of reasons. Firstly, as OverDone pointed out, there is an almost-exact replica thread in another forum, and we aim to avoid replicating thread topics (even in other sub-forums on Bluelight) due to not only minimising the server space each thread takes up, but also making it easier for people to use the search engine to find relevant threads pertaining to the topics for which they're searching.

Also, it is against the rules of The Dark Side forum to glorify drug use. Your thread was not moved of the content you initially posted in it, but because of the path the thread was taking. I appreciate that you may have had a different intention for your thread initially, and I look forward to reading more from you on the topics of meditation and mindfulness etc, but you can't account for other people's actions/posts.

I believe that OverDone's actions were correct and justified.

Threads get moved from forum to forum ALL the time on Bluelight for the many reasons, so it is nothing to take personally :)

from the faq:

How to make comments, suggestions and complaints

Why was my post closed or moved? I don't understand what I did wrong.

  • The post will state which moderator closed it. Send them a PM to ask why it was closed.
  • Be polite. There is no need to be overly angry or belligerent – this will only make things worse.
  • Clearly indicate your question or problem. If you just want an explanation, ask for one. If you disagree with their stated reason for their actions, say why you disagree. Don’t leave them guessing.
  • Include a link to the thread in question. This makes it easier for them to know what you are talking about, rather than having to dig.
  • Be patient. Moderators have lives, too.
  • Please remember that it is not uncommon for a poster's polite inquiry or request for clarifcation to result in a thread being re-opened.

Okey-doke.

I think the call was probably correct. However, it's sad that somebody's thread got canned because other people contributing couldn't follow the rules (or read the intentions of a well-meaning thread).

Perhaps there is some way that the thread could be re-posted in TDS, but with strict instructions for contributors to avoid all mention of drugs?

Perhaps name the thread: "Favourite way to start the abstinent morning"?

(naturally, you'll want to include the "u" in "favourite", so as to avoid using the infinitely sloppier form of English :D)

Surely a compromise could be reached? Or maybe post something on meditation, like neo suggested. TDS mods are reasonable. It's in the job description.

You're not really a mod until you've gotten a complaint thread in Support. :D lol

^Of Course! =D

so I've had a chat with OverDone, and we all got to follow the rules, just a shame that my thread got abused *sigh*
anyway i have accepted the compromise and issue resolved :)

Schiz, apologies for the delayed response in this thread but in order to satisfy anyone's curiosity its only fair to explain the reasoning of this action.

The original post was a good topic and well-intentioned. Below is the justification relayed to Schiz:

...The problem is that it quickly turned into a 'drug glorification' thread. We would have had to constantly watch and moderate it because of this. When a thread requires constant moderation we have three choices:
  1. Unapprove
  2. Close
  3. Move
Unapproving it would have killed the topic all together. I didn't want that to happen.

Closing it would have left it visible but unintelligible due to being shredded from the editing that would have been required.

Moving it kept the topic open for discussion...

Do I agree that it sucks that the potential of the thread was murdered? Yes. This is fixable by re-creating the concept with more specifics that would set the stage for more dialogue that is 'TDS appropriate'.
