Modafinil gives me crippling wind - how to fix?

I've been taking modafinil to study and it's been very effective, except for the fact that sometimes - even when I ingest very little (>50mg) - I get incredibly painful trapped wind. I have taken to snorting it instead and this seemed to help but it doesn't always make a difference. The pain is really something.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to prevent or lessen it? e.g. taking modafinil x hours before/ after food etc.? Thanks.

Hi slush... sorry to hear that you're experiencing such a feeling. I've been taking 500-1000mg Provigil daily for almost a year and I've never had that problem. The only issue I have - is that the tolerance is insane and even after taking 5-8 200mg pills, I don't stay awake on most days.

Do you mean gas pains? Gas is listed as a routine side effect of modafinil, as are diarrhea, nausea and other digestive complaints. I would try eating only healthy easy to digest foods that tend not to cause gas, taking an anti-gas digestive enzyme (Beano is one example), and if you do get gas pains massage your abdomen in a circular clockwise motion. Maybe experiment with taking it at different times in relation to when you eat as well.

You could try taking buscopan (scopolamine butylbromide) as that is pretty effective for stomach cramps. If the pain keeps up i would suggest going to see a doctor about it.
