Does anyone here take modafinil/Provigil? Or does anyone have any experience in taking it?

I take 500mgs a day for idiopathic hypersomnia, but am wondering if it's possible to get any kind of a buzz from it! I don't feel a whole lot on 500mgs I gotta say, I find it keeps me awake but doesn't seem to do much apart from that.

But seeing as people take Ritalin, Adderal etc recreationally, I thought I'd put it out there! Interested to see what ye think...:\

I think most people find that modafinil is not able to be used recreationally. Or at least that it's nowhere near as fun as adderal and ritalin.

I was prescribed 400mg modafinil for extreme lethargy associated with depression a while ago, and despite having access to as much as I wanted I never abused it. Or I must have tried but found it a waste of time. And several of my friends tried it but only reported feeling awake without any pleasure.

Ya suessmayr I think you're right. I took my 500mg for today all together, about an hour ago, and I'm not really feeling anything much - just a bit jittery in my hands and stuff, a bit buzzed but certainly not high or euphoric or anything.

Ah well, worth a shot I guess! :)

Yeah I think modafinil is just one of those drugs that are impossible to abuse - an effective drug, in other words, like bupe when taken properly.

500mg is already a biiig dose so I wouldn't take it any higher; just use it as prescribed.

Just because it doesn't get you high doesn't mean it's not potent/effective. They use it in the Air Force after all so it must do something!

I have some of this and tried it a couple of weeks ago.

My interest was also for ADHD and possible nootropic value, but since I have anxiety I was dubious of taking a stimulant which can make anxiety worse.

I took 100mg and found it not too pleasant. I felt too simulated like I drank I too much coffee and I had the jitters and agitation, plus a slight headache.

I may just be very sensitive to drugs or it may just have been anxiety and over-active adrenalin, but it's not a drug I would recommend if you're easily stressed like me.

Btw, totally off-topic, but Suessmayr is your name by any chance a play on Franz Sussmayr, who finished writing Mozart's Requiem?! Sorry, nerd alert :)

I like provigil. I would suggest you start by taking 100mg and seeing the effects. I usually take 400mg and have a cup of coffee and modafinil makes me sharp talkative friendly. Problems with modafinil happen to me when I take them for too long... Memory gets bad and quality of sleep is affected. Overall modafinil is a great here and there pull to have around. When I first atart taking it 400mg feels like a low dose of amp sometimes.

It is actually suEssmayr and not sussmayr, as the u with an umlaut becomes ue, as with all German vowels. But yes, I think I must have created this account at a time when I was very interested in the Requiem.

I find modafinil to be extremely useful as an aid to concentration and also as a motivational aid. I can get these effects from 100mg and find that if I take more it can lead to a certain amount of jitteryness. I usually take it within an hour of getting up and just before starting work, 100mg last all day for me and if I take it before midday I have no sleep problems. As a work-aid and motivator I find it hard to beat, it has no unwanted side effects and I have no desire to redose. I also feel in a more positive mood generally when I take it and my partner thinks I seem a happier person. For me it is one of pharmacology's better kept secrets!

I find that if you wait a few days in-between uses, it definitely hits nice like the first time. Believe it or not, for me it felt like coke in a pill, the first time I tried this stuff...I'm sure it was probably just the way I'm wired, lol

I just want to say - modafinil sucks ass. It's working so fucking well that I am now awake 24 hours, exhausted, but can't fall asleep! After some experimentation, it definitely does not get you high (well, hasn't worked for me anyway), and I personally cannot see any recreational value. I took some with ecstasy last week and didn't find it did anything to potentiate the effect of that either.

Therapeutically, as I said, it's way too effective right now. It's pissing me off. I'm on 500mgs a day (300mg morning, 200mg midday) as directed by my psychiatrist. I was on 400mg, but was still falling asleep during the day so he upped my dosage, saying that we could go as high as 800mg daily. Wtf?! That would keep a feckin zombie awake 24/7, never mind a normal person! (Or person with messed up sleeping patterns, we're not really normal, are we...)

I've been prescribed zolpidem (Stilnoct here, Ambien elsewhere) for my intermittent bouts of insomnia, but those things are seriously addictive. I mean, if I were to work off my multiple doctors' words of wisdom, I would be taking 500mg modafinil a day, plus 10mg Stilnoct a night. Pill-pushers much?! The drugs DO work, I'll give them that, but seriously, way to form a fucked-up habit. Great, thanks docs, you've really cured me.

Sorry for the rant, I'm just so fucking tired and the modafinil is keeping me awake and I've reliquinshed control of my sleeping tablets and benzos to my mum because I OD-ed twice on them in the last month so am obviously not responsible enough to keep them in my possession. (They are so much fun though!!) Hello dawn, hello new day, hello raging headache and bad temper and acute anxiety. Don't take pharms! Ugh.

Ok, for the purposes of making some kind of point in this post, I am going to take 400mg today instead of 500mg and try to work out my own dosage, rather than listening to the bloody psychiatrist, who, for all his training and apparent knowledge, has yet to demonstrate to me more than I have learned in three years of undergrad med school and some (admittedly considerable, but still amateur) reading up on psychology and drugs/pharms. I shall keep any and all interested in any epiphanies that happen to cross my path. Right, rant over, challenge on pharmaceutical companies! I don't need you :p

started taking 200mg modafinil every other day and initially thought it was "the answer" b/c it gave me motivation to re-arrange my sock drawer, gave energy and i felt anthropormorphic on it. having some doubts now (after a couple weeks) b/c it's giving me headaches sometimes as well as a kind of restless arm syndrome feeling (which is uncomfortable and unacceptable). also feeling jittery/anxiety a bit. so, gonna titrate down to 100mg every other day.

one poster mentioned that it is a good pull now and then - perhaps this is the case (instead of using it continually).

Moda is great. Some brands are better than others. Generally, the nature of the drug is positive.

Positive head space, clear thinking, not really feeling 'wired'. Just 'engaged' with things in your day.

Taking too much Moda in the course of one day leads to noticeable side-effects for me ... heart palpitations, jittery feeling ... and difficulty sleeping much later at night.

Moda is best used once in a while, not every day.
