Hi folks, wondering if anyone could tell me from experience, what are the differences between Modafinil and the rest like modvigil, if any?

I have a one week intensive course on electrics coming up, It's landed on me as someone at work is leaving, and I can apparently cover his role with this course, bearing in mind I joined the company as carpenter! there is pay incentive.

So are there any differences between the lot really.

I ask because I seem to be allergic to Modafinil, it's given me a body rash when tried in the past.

Thank you.

Aight well if nobody else is going to answer you I will chime in. I used to use it a bit about a decade ago - modafinil is the actual substance but there are many brands including modavigil, modalert and provigil. Provigil was the most reliable one I encountered but it was expensive. Whatever types I tried definitely kept me awake and focused but I didn't really enjoy the feeling or get much out of it and combining it with other stimulants felt sketchy physically and mentally even at small doses. The kind of energy where you can't sit down and you can't stand up and you don't know what the hell you need to do to get the restless feeling out. If you're used to taking real drugs it's shit because there's no high to speak of but you'll keep telling yourself there is one to seek out and large doses are unpleasant and last a long time. It can get you completely locked in to the wrong things - eg if I wasn't working when it started to take effect I'd just do whatever I was doing at the point it kicked in for 8 hours. TBH if the course is meaningful or will help you just get yourself together and try to do it straight. If it's giving you rashes it's a sign to avoid it.

I think rash is function of modafinil. I got it also one time I tried stuff. I am no sure if there are isomers of which some give more of a rash and some less, but it is based on histamine release, it is not even allergy.

I never got a rash from it. The occasional headache, the taste of vomit at the back of my throat and major BP spikes when I tried tiny touches of other stims on top. I think it made my piss stink as well, can't remember for sure. There are loads of weird things about modafinil and there seems to be major variation in effect from person to person, amplified by differences between brands which were quite pronounced iirc. There's a reason it's not especially popular.

Exactly.

@50shadesofDave, if you're allergic to modafinil, I doubt if any different brand is going to make any difference.

I don't think there's any alternative ROAs that might make any difference. Snorting MDPV used to give me an extreme and insane streaming runny nose allergic reaction, which seemed to last for hours. I countered that by switching to vaping. Obviously that was far more injurious to health though, and would almost certainly be a very bad idea to try it with modafinil, and it probably wouldnt work anyway.

You could try sublingual dosing, which does work, but I doubt if that would help with the allergy, tbh. I dunno, I don't fully understand bio-chemistry or drug physiology or even what the proper title is for the subject. But sublingual should bypass the stomach, which just possibly might help. If you still have some left, no harm in trying a little.

Alternatively, maybe you could take an anti histamine or 2 first to help with the rash. Phenergan works wonders for me for preventing the hot, prickly, and alarmingly bright red rash, that I would otherwise get with codeine. But some people say that phenergan kills the codeine high, while others say it enhances it.. So much conflicting information and user reports on the internet. Some of the cheap non drowsy hay fever anti histamines might be a better bet if you're after the stimulant effects of the modafinil, and dont want anything making you drowsy......(But they didn't work for me with for my codeine allergy, and I'm not sure if that would also apply to a modafinil allergy.)

There are differences in the modafinil brands - I havnt bothered with the silly shit in years but I tried the french modafinil that cost a fortune - £70 a box? And the cheap indian shit modalert - tenner a box. I think the modalert was rougher physically and headache wise

Yeah there are differences in strength etc, but Jancrow and I just meant that any genuine brand of modafinil is just modafinil. So if OP is allergic to one brand of modafinil he's almost certainly going to be allergic to all of them.

Not sure it was just the strength beaney - that modalert - its modafinil - but you get a shit headache with it pretty much every time.

The modalerts always seemed stronger to me. And Modafinil has a very distinctive taste, which every brand ive ever tried has had. Thats been helpful in not needing to send any off to wedinos.

There might be some other different ingredients across the different brands, fillers, binders, god knows what else, but they are all Modafinil.

Can't remember the brands but have had Modafinil on numerous occasions specifically for help for help focus/attention/perseverence on a specific all-day type task which I would otherwise find super-taxing - has absolutely worked a treat for me every time. I found that 70mg (commonly regarded as a small dose) was absolutely my sweetspot for above purposes).

I wouldn't be taking it recreationally though, felt no sense of being in any way 'high' at any dose tbh (have tried 50-200mg and anything above 100mg just feel generically 'yuck' to me) but then again, I didn't want to be getting high just needed to get the boring shit done.

Yeah it's a weird one, classed more as a 'wakefulness agent' rather than a traditional stimulant. As such it doesnt have any of the usual stimulant mood enhancers like making music sound much better etc.

Apparently the British military and French foreign legion, even astronouts, IIRC, are now issued modafinil instead of amphetamines when they need to be awake for extended periods. Bit of a bum deal really, but I guess on the positive side there is no brutal comedown, other than any e

it's yummy

i go with low doses, too, because higher doses hype me up too much. i'm a naturally energetic person and don't need so much help with staying awake than to help me not feel miserable when i have to do boring stuff sitting at desk in front of a computer. i think higher doses would make me want to get up and do physical stuff instead, which would then be counterproductive.

i find it mood enhancing in so far that i know a boring day will be more easy to deal with when i take my dose of modafinil. it's not only that it makes my work less taxing, it also makes me more chatty. so instead of just acknowledging small talk when it comes up, i might even engage in it a bit.

Thanks for the replies folks, I appreciate your input.

I've not bought any, I imagined they would be similar, I'll just hack it out.

Thanks again people.
