MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. — A New Jersey pharmacy technician who says she was traumatized when a masked gunman burst into her store demanding OxyContin is suing her employers for arranging the mock holdup.

Babette Perry says in a lawsuit that she was not told in advance of the training drill in December 2007 at the Hampton Behavioral Health Center. She says she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder after the gunman entered the store, claiming he had taken another worker hostage. She says she tried to call for help, but the phone wasn't working.

She later found out the gun was a fake and the gunman worked for the company.

Perry is seeking damages from the health center and its parent company, Universal Health Services Inc., of King of Prussia, Pa.

The general counsel for Universal declined to comment on the case.

I read this earlier in the local paper. I could kind of see her point that this was excessive. Make your employees watch a video about how these situations should be handled and leave the mock drills for actual LE, security, and loss prevention.

I wonder why it took almost 2 years to bring a lawsuit?

I would like to think that it took so long because she waited to make sure that she actually did have psychological damage before suing. My general experience with people suggests that the cause was something far less noble.

This is bizarre. The company certainly used poor judgement in having a mock holdup. That's enough to give some people a stroke or heart attack.

Yeah and opens up chances that anything could go wrong. What if she had a little .22 in her pure and pulled it out and shot him in fear. Unlikely but ya never know.

Interesting Thread. I would like to know more about your opinions on this thread.

Is NJ a concealed carry state?

And also, does anyone know if NJ is a concealed carry state? If so then the employee performing the robbery, couldn't he sue the company for endangering his life like that?

The employer is lucky their wasn't someone with a permit to carry around to waste the fake robber.
Whats an employee supposed to do in this situation anyway? The landline was out for the drill.
You gonna tell an armed gunman to fuck off, or give him some darvocet? Maybe slam some barbs in their jugular when their distracted? Not me. I bet they we're testing to see if the employee's would give up the OC.

I was also wondering what the employer would have done if that technician had decided to be packing that day and blew the fuckers head off.

NJ does issue concealed carry permits but only very rarely to rich, politically connected applicants. Not to pharmacy techs.

What was the point of this drill? Is she trained to give up the meds or not?

F U C K IN G - I D I O T S
Who, in their right damn mind, would do something like this without at the very least telling the pharmacy that there would be a drill for this in the near future. Was it really worth it? Leaving this poor woman with PTSD?
Arseholes! :!
I hope she sues the shit out of them :X

How could they not have seen a lawsuit coming from something like this? They should at least give her some mdma to rid her of that ptsd shes got :D

Monstanoodle I don't even think it would be wise for them to advise a drill "in the near future", in the unlikely event a real robbery occurred in the meantime the employee could make a deadly mistake under the assumption it was a drill.

The fact is you can't drill armed robberries, you have a policy which is give the robbers whatever the fuck they request because your life is worth more than a few thousand dollars and/or a few hundred OCs. I don't see why this philosophy should need to be drilled.

Woulda been great if she popped dude. Oh sorry boss you said you needed to cut hours this week at work i was just helping out.

That's fucked up. That's like yelling "fire!" in a theater, having a stampede of people running out the doors and then saying "oh, this was just a drill". Terribly irresponsible.
