Mobile phones: What do you have? What do you waaaant?

Touch screen works fine with screen protection fine on my ipod.

It's a clear sticker that goes on the face of it, no hassles at all.

the problem is not damage, but the lack of tactile sensation means you can't type without looking

Yep, I totally understand. No way I could whip up a message on an iphone as quick as I could on my Sony. I was answering lostpunks question from up at the top of the page.

Also, a touch screen still works with a screen protector right? I work outdoors so need to have one.

:)

First there was the above, and then they made this:

here

and I'm in love. Such a fucking awesome phone - it does everything I want it to.

The only problem is the keyboard - I mistype from time to time and the backspace button is right over the enter button and I end up sending people unfinished texts. But I can handle that because it's hot.

Om nom nom nom nom nom nom n om nom nom nom nom nom etc :)

Picked one of these up on Saturday :)

Wasn't sure initially because it just looked huge, but it is only ~2mm longer than the iphone with a much larger screen, is slimmer and has better battery life. I really didn't want to go apple. I wanted a new phone *now* and if I was going apple, would have waited for the iphone4 to come out.

Android ftw, apple ftl ;):)=D

If you break your iPhone screen and you're in Brissy, go to E and E Electronics in the city. $120 to fix it. 2 hour turn around.

Mines nice and new again!

Lg Kp500 Cookie - i like the touch screen features and the neat little pen with it!

I've got an oldschool samsung, I love it, it was the cheapest 3G phone that was out at the time, cost me $99 but had features of 500 phones lol

It's bullet proof, have done so much to it and it still runs, even left it in a puddle of water in a storm for about half an hour and it didn't even leak :-)

but I now have the option to get an HTC desire, not sure if I want it though, it looks fun but I drop my phones alot

oh and iphones are lame

I looove my iPhone - Apple fangirl here sad to say ;) I want the new iPhone but it looks like my bf will get one before me cos my contract doesnt run out til early next year.

we can't be friends anymore

but they do actually look fun, but I can't commit to owning one... iPad on the other hand...

lol ;) I'm okay with people hating iphones

iPad I was "meh" about - til I played with one. Now I want. For no good reason - its not like I NEED one - I've got a battered old Macbook Pro for watching movies in bed with. And what else do you need it for?
But its just...so...SHINY!!!

;)

my brothers old school mate programs apps for the iphone, and after seeing the drum machine/ sampler loop thingy he made I decided I need an iPad

that's ok, I forgive you this time :)

picked up a n900 last night. scored from ebay for a fair score at $570. despite having played with nokias since the days of bricks, this maemo os is going to take some getting used to. love the qwerty keyboard and the touchscreen is better than i expected.

damn this n900 is great. now that i've got 20+gb of music on it, i can't wait to try out the FM transmitter in the car.

Currently on a n95 8gb, but since it's seen a lot of punishment the last few months I'm pretty keen to upgrade to the iPhone 4.
I really wish phones were as durable as the black and white ones back in the day though :(

Hi guys,

Just hoping I can get some feedback on Optus' mobile reception at events. I have been with Telstra since my first mobile phone all those many years ago and have always been impressed with their reception - especially when venturing out of the cities and off the beaten track.

I have since moved my home phone and internet to Optus and found them to be cheaper than Telstra, and offer better service.

However I'm a bit dubious about their mobile phone reception.

Have any of you had good or bad experiences with Optus mobile phone coverage outside of populated areas? I'd love to hear your views.

TIA!

Yep, Optus is not as good as Telstra in my experience. Magnetic Island is the best example I can think of right now, Optus only gets signal at the ferry terminal, Telstra covers the whole island. Same kind of deal driving between here and Cairns.

The coverage is the only reason I stay with Telstra, it justifies the expense IMO. What is the point of having a phone if you can't use it cos it's got no signal? Gheeeeeeeeeeeeeeey! ;)

So Vodafone allowed me to return the N97 (see thread page 7) so now I'm just waiting for the Nokia N8's release and still kicking it with the N85 'til then.

Stupid N8 should hurry up and have a release date in Australia though!

Oh, and I'd just like to say that in the 11 years I've been with Vodafone I've only had a single problem with them. Not sure about anyone else's experience but as far as companies go they've always done right by me. So good on you Vodafone.

Looking at prepaid phones...

Haven't had a Nokia in years... This slide phone is cool.

And this SAMSUNG ULTRA TOUCH BLACK is okay but a bit out of my price range...

Would mean going back to Telstra if I wanted a:
