i bet he was taking roids or something at some point in his career. i think long term use of roids causes imbalances in the chemicals in your brain or something cuz that roid rage can make a guy do whacked out shit, any one remember that chris bennoit story a few years back? maybe the trip on shrooms was just the straw that broke the camels back. its all speculation though he coulda just had psychotic tendencies or something

A psych ward is not civilization, let me tell you that first...

This man clearly had something wrong with him before the shrooms. Shrooms don't just magically make people kill their friends and dismember them, or we'd see a lot more of that happening. I've seen enough bad trips before to be well aware of the dangers, and yet I've never seen anyone so much as hit another person. Walls, cars, streets, sure, but not people. But personal experiences aside, generally when people take enough psychedelics to think it's okay to kill someone, they're too fucked up to actually commit the act, which leads me to believe that this guy had an underlying condition that got aggravated by a relatively low dose of drugs. It doesn't mean we need to forgive the guy, but it means we need to show compassion. I don't think he's very happy about what happened at this point... You tell us to imagine if it was our family, well, imagine if you were him... His life is OVER, and he murdered a friend.

Mixed Martial artist rips out man's heart and tongue while high on mushrooms.

A northern California man accused of ripping out the heart and tongue of a friend after the two had taken hallucinogenic drugs has pleaded guilty to murder, four days before his case was set to go to trial.

Jarrod Wyatt, 29, of Crescent City, Calif. accepted a plea deal in which he will serve a 50-years-to-life prison sentence in the March 2010 death of his sparring partner, 21-year-old Taylor Powell, Del Norte County prosecutors told The Associated Press.

"The earliest he'll be able to see a parole board is 2062," District Attorney Jon Alexander told the AP. "We saved Taylor's family the agony from reliving the incident at the trial."

Police officers discovered Wyatt naked and covered in blood head-to-toe when they arrived at a house in Requa, Calif., in March 2010.

Wyatt, a mixed-martial artist, reportedly told the officers, "I killed him." He had cut out Powell's heart and tongue, according to court documents.

Powell's body was found by officers on the couch. His chest had been cut open, while his heart, tongue and the skin of his face was removed. Court documents say that Powell's heart and tongue had been removed while he was still alive.

The two had ingested hallucinogenic mushrooms before Wyatt attacked and killed Powell, according to witnesses. While intoxicated, the two believed that they were involved in a struggle between God and the devil. Powell's heart was discovered by police charred in a wood-burning stove, Dr. Neil Kushner, who performed the autopsy, told The Times Standard.

Wyatt had entered duel pleas of not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity, prompting psychiatrists to evaluate his mental competence. In May, a judge ruled Wyatt was competent to stand trial.

I too can't understand why some people can't allow for the possibility of this being caused by the mushrooms. He might not have been mentally stable, and the MMA might have made him a bit more desensitized to violence, but hasn't anyone ever had a very bad trip? It is possible to have an intensely paranoid experience, and instead of taking the flight response he took the fight response. Psychedelics are extremely powerful and mind bending/shattering. It isn't the whole lovey-dovey I'm at peace with the world and myself every time...
 
I don't know if it is just me but there are some aspects of shrooms I used to find more scary than acid. The trip comes on very quickly and I've felt encircled by The Trip in a kind of physical way. By comparison, acid is kind of lighter and I find the experience easier to live and work with. But that's just my experience. It just struck me that if there was even the remotest chance I was ever going to freak out and physically attack someone thinking they were the devil it would be more likely on shrooms than acid for me. I've had up to maybe 200ug acid (two flint microdots, UK, 1993/4) and up to 3g dried shrooms.
 
This is the farthest out that someone can get. Its so incomprehensible how/why a person could ever do this, no matter the intoxication. Weirder more so that it was done while under the influence of this drug, which isn't a stimulant (though I do remember reading that it has NRI or release agent properties in high doses).

I didn't read all the replies. I think I remember reading almost this exact same story a few years ago. MMA fighter takes shrooms and tears friend to bits.

Anyone considered/mentioned the effect that mushrooms and steroid regimens could have on someone? I have seen more than 200 people take mushrooms. I have seen some people seizure for a few moments, I have seen people not know they are human anymore but I have NEVER seen violence. It is not too far fetched that an unkempt mind mixed with a heavy mushroom trip could cause a violent outburst.

His poor friend :(
