Mixmag - "Methoxetamine = roflcoptr" - *MUST READ*

surely it's the magazine that's at fault though?

they've completely discredited themselves as a reliable information source, and have lost all credibility in relation to holding opinions on a subject they could & should be the first and foremost, most up-to-date & reliable source for. they've got unique access to a key demographic of users, and they've basically fucked them over.

this sort of exploitation really fucks me off big time.

Yeah exactly, though I'm sure they'd just deny advertising it as a favour or for a bribe if they were confronted about it, but it does seem likely that's what they've done.

roflcopter.......

........what the fuck name is that. seriously. thought "meow meow" for meph was bad enough, never met anybody who called it meow meow

Funny, http://uk.linkedin.com/pub/russell-cope/31/60a/504, is now offline.

Also, I've sent an e-mail to Alex Miller the guy who wrote that Vice article you linked to:

Well played man. Can you send something similar to Mixmag? (Just to see if there's any response). It's far more eloquent than I could ever put it.

The problem is, they've only really discredited themselves in our eyes. The very small minority of people who use this site. No-one else is even going to realise that anything is wrong unless they are called out on it by other media sources (which isn't realistically ever going to happen).

I can't see how the editor has a leg to stand on. I really hope someone makes them pay for this. ShillMag.

Agreed, but I can't see what could ever happen. As I said above, no-one even knows (or cares?) about this shadiness other than a few dozen people on here.

Vader + 1

ha ha loving this call to arms.....Any one a member on the other big drugs forum? Get the word out.

This scandal needs exposed

Well done SolidE.............I personally just find this disgusting. If the media though cunts sweating, talking shite with big pupils through mephedrone..they aint seen fuck all.

There is already bound to be a few youngsters ordered a gram and ready for lift off (is that a pun?)

Im a pretty experienced drug user and i thought id done my mates over by giving them a couple of tiny lines of MXE....some of us (me included) had some mild respiratory restriction......fuck knows what it would be like at 100mg level!

Find out next week in the Daily Mail i guess

I really hope Mixmag get fucked for this.

They won't though.

They actively promote their annual drugs survey on here eh? Reckon an admin or someone could email them to say that Bluelight won't be promoting or encouraging the participation in next years one due to this farce? (Playing devil's advocate here & assuming the rest of Bluelight agree with me, but I'm pretty sure they do).

Only 76 "likes" on facebook, and we can at least comment there, unlike the site.

So the site rather than the drug is now known as Rofltractor. Wonderful. At least the ridiculous helicopter has gone.

Out of all the unique names though why oh why choose rofltractor? It's only going to interest 14 year olds, it's so stupid.

It's funny - this survey is actually breaking all records for the number of completions... over 13,000 so far.

I think that is because the majority of people who take it haven't used most of the drugs on the list - therefore they would have a much shorter survey experience. Folks at BL, however, are finding it is really long!

I think there is always a balance that we (researchers) have to consider between publicising new trends too early and ignoring them for too long. On the one hand, I personally don't want to be responsible for negative repercussions to drug users due to some research I published leading to draconian law changes. On the other hand, if it is already happening and out in the media, we need to find out more about it and provide some counter information to the media anecdotes that tend to come first when these things go public. Researchers armed with survey data tend to get media time. And that gives us a chance to say something reasonable. Whether the media allow that or distort it to their ends is another matter... but I figure we should at least try and get a more informed voice into these debates. Having the data is one way of getting that airtime. IMHO

May have no actual affiliation with said article however, just doing the research it seems.

Dunno where you got this from. All I see is a blue line at the top of their front page (and the helicopter is still behind it).

Its soooooooooooooooo shit its almost like the Daily Mail's set it up. I think they/we should be told...

I can't link to it for obvious reasons, but this guy is also plying his trade on a particularly notorious public sourcing forum. Only somebody's posted a link to this thread on there and pointed out the subterfuge, which can't be all that great for his business.

Shame, eh?

Niiiice.

His business will still be fucking booming after that Mixmag article though :|

Whoever's doing this is pretty despicable. There's RC vendors, and then there's branded 'legal high' vendors. And then there's Roflcoptr.

My favourite line:

ROFL-fans: Show you love of ROFLCOPTR with a T-shirt! If anybody sees a different style of T-shirt on the site that they prefer or they want a different ROFL design, let us know. Although if anyone asks for baby clothes, I'll have to refuse. That's just wrong.

..."cos I'm no sicko."

Is the fb page still up? I can't seem to see it any more. I wonder if dickhead is realising a little late in the game that he's irresponsibly marketing something which is liable to fuck a lot of people up. Or perhaps he can't deal with the backlash.

This thread will eventually start coming up in search results for roflcoptr. Would it be a good thing if the thread title was changed to his spelling and a well formatted post summarising the situation was plonked on p1?

I know it doesn't really matter much since it's not illegal anyway, and I'm not actually opposed to this guy selling MXE .. But the way he goes about it is so fucking douchy.

Imo, one of the key ways to get this highlighted to people that might actually give a shit and be able to do so something about it, is The Guardian

They were fully behind the MixMag survey and plugged it a lot on The Guardian website ... not sure why but I'm guessing theyve probably got first dibs on the survey results.

I'm not 100% but didn't it say the results were due end of Feb, beginning of march? If the Guardian have any standards in their information sources they really shouldn't be happy that Mixmag have allowed this to happen. On top of the whole shameless promotion, it's also nicely timed with being set up just in time for when the results are published .... and you can bet Methox is gonna be the most talked about and hyped new RC from the answers to the survey... and how lucky that a ROFLAbomination site is now up and running for your convenience, kids
[EDIT] This years Global Drug Survey is now closed. It has been the biggest drug survey of current drug use ever conducted. The results will be available exclusively on March 15 2012 through Mixmag and the Guardian. For updates see www.globaldrugsurvey.com.

If anyone can just pull up the main points/links/fb etc in the saga ie:
1. MixMag 2 page spread
2. Article by XXX , with a link
3. Links to vice article FB etc

I'll go and source some links for who to contact and cc @ Guardian and maybe we can all just send in the same email which should get their attention? and link to this thread also. if we do it en mass it'll get more attention and cc a number of different sections

Also @ Solide, I think it's worth CC'ing the Guardian on the email you sent to the Vice author too

contacts @ the guardian
