I have a really bad knot in my back under my shoulder blade and just got back from the physio, I can barely breathe I am in so much pain. I've got deep heat on, I've taken 75mg voltaren, lots of morphine, a tiny bit of valium, running a hot bath now but I can still barely breathe I am in so much pain.

Will mixing ibuprofen with the voltaren help? or will they both compete for the same pathway and not improve the pain relief? I know it says not to mix them but I can't find a single reason why not to on the internet, does anyone know why?

NSAID's are hard on the liver and kidneys(?), which I believe is part of the reason they're not recommended to take together. The other thing is that Ibuprofen (I'm not really that familiar with voltaren) can give you killer stomach aches when taken in excess (I can attest to this from when I had a herniated disc), I'd imagine combining it with another NSAID increases the chance of that.

Can you call a pharmacy? They could probably tell you what dosages work. That sounds like a lot of pain for a knot, hopefully you can get that figured out.

It should be OK, the main thing you goto worry about is what Chazz said, that you're taking too much NSAIDs. I'm not sure on the maximum recommended dose of the diclonefenac, but with ibuprofen you shouldn't be doing more than about 300mg at once, or 1200mg in 24h.
