Benzos Mixing uppers and downers? bad or life saving?

Say for instance someone took a too high dose of a stimulant like coke. Would it be best to give them 1-3 mg of xanax to reduce the detrimental effects caused by extreme physical stimulation? I heard it was just a myth that mixing uppers and downers "confuses" the heart and makes the outcome unpredictable. I heard this myth originated because people often died from speedballs because the high dose of heroin outlasted the stimulant and dangerously depressed the CNS once it wore off.

So what I'm asking is, if was careful about the benzo dose and only use enough to calm down the stimulant effects, would it do more good than harm? The reason I asked this because I knew a guy who started shaking and his jaw started twitching while coming up on molly so he took either .5mg or 1mg of xanax and it seemed to help him.

A better option is avoiding needing the benzo in the first place by not doing balls-to-the-walls dosages.

Benzos are really meant for managing severe panic attacks and the like, they're not meant to be band-aids for a bumpy comeup. They don't "confuse" the heart or anything, but in worst case scenarios they can act to remove inhibitions, and in combination with stimulant drugs, you have a recipe for an out of control person.

Yup. If unsure don't do it. I was in a spot mixing the two and it's a horrible place to be in… After 3 days I was sitting in my living room out of my mind not sure if I should do more cocaine or more benzos to sleep it off. I kept mixing them… couldn't stop. This was just my experience but it can lead there.
I had to go to the ER and they couldn't give me benzos as I had too many in my system with the cocaine already

I think you're right.
There are studies out there on the co-analgesic effects of amphetamines and opiates. Psychostimulants have painkilling properties of their own (methamphetamine is said to be about as effective as morphine in this regard) and there is a strong co-analgesic synergy between the two classes of drugs. The Nazis actually had a painkiller that contained oxycodone and methamphetamine.

I have been unable to find any studies on this 'confused heart' theory. I think the only reason such formulations are not licenced for prescription is the potential for abuse (meth + oxy in a pill... yeah I can see why GPs would be hesitant to write you a script for that).

I used to enjoy the two, coke and valium. Do so much valium you had to do coke to stay awake. It was fun when i was about 16/17 and really discovered the joys of opiates.

Yes, I am prescribed adderall and hydrocodone without complications. I agree with Sekio that you should take smaller doses so that you're not uncomfortable (you can always take more, but never less). The only time I'd use a benzo with coke is if your anxiety gets the best of you.

I always preload my coke usage with a small benzo dose as I've had seizures in the past, making me more prone to them. Also it just seems to make the experience overall run more smoothly. Is this bad? I rarely use coke (once maybe twice a month), never to excess, and also use benzos very lightly (maybe once a week).

I wouldn't mix Stimulants with downers. Not worth the risk.

PLUS

Doing a stimulant, after you crash without having benzos/opiates will SUCK.

The best thing to do is to save you downers after you crash on your upper of choice.

Mixing them can be fun, but not worth it IMO. The downer takes away the speed effects of the upper.
That's why it's best to save the downer for the comedowns.

Back in the 'good old days', you could get 'French Blues', which were IIRC a mixture of amphetamine c.90% and some sort of barbiturate c.10%. I suppose some genius at SKF figured that the barb would take the edge off the speed rush, and make them safer, or maybe less addictive? What it did mean that they left us all incredibly smashed and speedy, foaming at the mouth when necked in abundance with booze... marvellous! Sadly they were withdrawn long ago, sniffle!
Altogether not a good idea to mix them, and a common cause of fatalities. See Dr Whatshername, Medical Examiner on TV.
