Good morning/afternoon to all,

OK, so I've been on methadone for about 2 years now. My current dose is 110mgs daily. The problem is that I've picked up a benzo habit, in which I'm taking about 10 to 15mgs of xanax in a day. Some days less, but usually no more the 15mgs. Can someone even begin to tell me the hazards that I need to watch out for. I'm no dummy when it comes to overdosing on drugs, but no that heroin and cocaine are no longer in the mix what can you guys/gals tell me about my new cocktail?? Any and all info. is greatly appreciated.
Thank You for very much!!

Mister Right

All I can is that is wayyyy too much god damn xanax to be taking every day. Christ 15mg would last me a week. I would try weaning myself down cause with that habit, a cold turkey stop might have you seizing up man. I take benzos pretty regularly (#30 30mg temazepams and #30 1mg xanax) and even 5mg of xanax will result in a total black out. At least try to cut back man for your own health

Mixing benzos and opiates is very dangerous and puts you at a strong risk of overdose. Mixing any kind of CNS depressants (alcohol, benzos, opiates...) potentiates their effects enormously and thus escalates the chance of OD. Do not do it.

Also, regarding your benzo habit, just in case you don't know, benzo addiction is considerably more serious than other ones as quitting can lead to death. I was on about the same amount of xanax daily as you, ~12mg or so, and I made the stupid mistake of quitting CT and that got me landed in the hospital after multiple seizures.
(Benzo addiction also tends to make you miserable, more so than others IME)

Anyway - don't mix those pills!!

I'm scripted methadone and Valium (diazepam).

The key word here is moderation.

As watermellon said, your Xanax habit is over the top, to say the least. 15mg of Xanax (alprazolam) daily is by itself problematic of a dose, add to that 110mg of methadone and we're looking at a suicide combo, really. I would seriously consider a taper if I were you, but you do what you want. Good luck.

That does not sound too good man. You've picked up both of the worst dependencies possible not to mention that your life is basically constantly on the line. You are going to need a long acting benzo to be even remotely safe, and if you want to taper you are def going to need it. Get on diazepam under a doctor's supervision and start tapering, that is the only thing recommended. And even if you don't want to taper you still going to need the long acting one.

15mg of alprazolam is way too much for anyone to be taking on its own. In combination with 110mg of methadone daily is asking for overdose. I've had several friends die from this combination.

MMT is one thing, but you've got a serious problem with the xanax. You need to taper down immediately.

wow, you're way too young for that! holy shit!

How long have you been stabile on this current methadone dose? Do you get any effects from the methadone? What is your tolerance to benzos like? These are very important questions when considering the safety of taking benzos while on methadone. It's not like anyone taking a benzo with methadone is automatically taking a deadly combination, tolerance plays a HUGE role. People on stabile methadone maintenance are prescribed benzos, BUT those are normal therapeutic amounts taken under a doctor's guidance. 15mg is a LOT of Xanax! I would be concerned and would start lowering your Xanax. If you are already taking up to 15mg/day of Xanax then I assume you must have developed a significant tolerance to benzos.

As for what to look out for, the danger of mixing opioids and benzos is the synergistic CNS depression, basically the biggest danger is that you will pass out and stop breathing. Methadone is especially tricky because the respiratory depression from methadone can last longer than the other more noticeable effects. We can't know what a safe Xanax dose for you is. Please be very careful. Often when someone ODs on methadone and benzos they go to bed seeming fine and just don't wake up in the morning. So it's not always something you can watch out for and call for help for before it's too late.

Thank You to everyone who posted back with sincere care about my health. Since I've last posted. I told my psyciatrist I was abusing my xanax. He put me on an Ativan taper. Which will be done at the end of this week. I felt like HELL the first week or two. Now I actually feel my methadone dose. I have no idea what I was thinking, taking mass amounts like that. That's why I'm an addict. I jump right in with two feet or not at all. Very stupid. Once again Thank You all very much some of you may have saved my life.

nice work mr right.. You were definitely spinning the fate wheel with that combination.. Hopefully you can clear your head enough to move through your addictive personality. Benzo addiction is worse than opiod imo. I had to relapse several times to get off of the 'done train. I eventually moved to suboxone to get off the done and then cleaned my system out. Good luck

I wonder where the the ativan taper come from since ativan is not proper medication for tapering, anyway if you cope with it;fine. I would have used diaz or clonaz. Be safe.
