Mixing dihydrocodeine and tramadol

Depends on how you define "good idea".

What are your previous experiences with tramadol and dihydrocodeine? Are you new to opiates or just those two drugs?

If you have experience with them, or with other opiates, what is your tolerance?

They can certainly be mixed, but they both have opiate action and the SNRI action of tramadol is something to consider as well.

It's hard for me to answer that question completely without more information...

*I'm going to edit the title of your thread for easier searching in the future, PM me if you have any questions about this.*

Hi, thanks for your advice. I have quite a high tolarence for both, dihydrocodeine does nothing for me any more and it takes a lot of tramadol to get high. but since I have a lot of both, I was wondering if the 2 would interact well?

once again thanks.

They will potentiate each other, yes, as they're both opiates and tramadol has additional action (namely SNRI action). Care must be taken, however, due to tramadol's ability to cause seizures in high doses or when combined with a drug that lowers the seizure threshold.

Make sure to reduce the dosage of both drugs if you decide to combine them. How much of each are you used to taking?

hi, about 400 - 500mg of tram a day have been for quite some time, and about 150-180mg of dihydrocodine, if I do them together how should I take them?? ie take the tram first then the dihydrocodeine or take them at the same time?

thanks

You can take them at the same time, but I would reduce your dosage of both drugs by a bit.

For example, since you've been taking 400-500mg of tramadol and 150-180mg of dihydrocodeine, I would start with 200-300mg of tramadol and then 75-90mg of dihydrocodeine.

Remember, you can always take more of a drug, but you can never take less once you've already taken it. Starting lower when combining drugs is a safer practice. You can always take more if that mixture doesn't get you were you want to be. Make sure to wait at least 90 minutes after the first dose before taking any booster doses.

Good luck!

Hi, ok thanks for your advice mate, much appriciated. I'll try it out now n see what happens.

cheers mate.

Ive been taking between 1200-1800mg DCH a day, sometimes 1200mg in one go.

I have akso been axperimenting with Tramadol a bit aswell, never more than 400mg per day, sometimes il take 200mg and then 200mg again later or il just take 100mg doses at different points throughout the day until i feel good, im not quite sure of my 'sweet spot yet... although i sometimes get tempted to just bang 400mg in one go..like now.. although i have i have 960 DHC crushed inti fine powder ready to ingest... do i neck that and wait? or neck that and 400mg Tramadol all at once for the best felling?

Hi Pete,

That sounds quite risky given that the DHC will likely potentiate the Tramadol to some extent and your pushing the Tramadol dose right into the danger area for a seizure.

You know the recommendation of 400mgs in 24hrs, I believe this is based no other opiates being taken at the same time, TBH I'm not sure about the safety of dropping the full 400mgs at once but I am sure that dumping a whole load of DHC on the top is really asking for trouble.

Be safe mate, breakdancing at this time of the day is not going to be a laughing matter ;)

Best Wishes

Thanks mate, really appreciate your imput.

I orally ingested the 960mg of DHC around 2 hours ago now.. and if im honest im not feeling a great deal (my own fault) damn tolerance!

My idea was probably to slowly increment my doses of Tramadol at 100mg per time, say once every 2-3 hours.

Sound safer?

EDIT : Im sorry i forgot to say i also orally ingested 50mg Diazepam approximately 2 hours ago also, could this possibly slightly reduce seizure risk?

I believe your better off taking the Tramadol like that as you end up with more O-Desmethyltramadol, the good stuff in your system, rather than overloading your system and ending up with less.

The Benzo should decrease the chances of seizure but I don;t know how much of this effect, if any is lost due to tolerance, the half life of Diaz is long so even the Diaz you took yesterday (I'm guessing you may have done;)) will still be in your system.

I can't say for sure what your doing won't lead to a seizure, this seems to vary from person to person with some people reporting seizures at 250mgs with nothing else and others talking about 1000mgs with no ill effects.

Taking the stuff in increments sure sounds better idea than dropping 400mgs all at once, take care matey, I'm still grinding out that Benzo taper 8)

I think im gonna take the Tramadol in 50mg increments, spaced about 45 minutes- 1 hour apart depending on how im feeling...

I start my 40mg per day Diazepam Taper on Monday :)

Wish me luck!!!

Another thing i foget to mention (damn Altzeimers!) :D Is that i also took 20mg Amitri[tyline around 3 hours ago or so... but i read elsewhere that this will cause no problems.. especially at such a low dose.

Fekin hell Pete your like a walking pharmacy, he says as he necks some more Morphine after my morning Diaz, Paracetamol and Venlafaxine;)

The Amitriptyline will lower your seizure threshold but like you say its a fairly low dose, this is a handy site if a little cautious with its info:-

Haha =D

I took the 20mg of Amitriptyline as i wanted some added sedation without having to use ridiculous amounts of Benzos to acheive it (hence the 50mg Diazepam) which is an extremely low dose for me, and seeing as my taper begins in 48 hours ive been trying to keep my Benzo intake to a minimum in the hope that my tolerance will be low enough for the medically prescribed 40mg Diazepam to have some type of effect.. I also have Mirtazapine if i need it but ive read that the seizure risk is slightlly higher compared to Amitriptyline.

I wont ask if your presscribed Morphine or Diazepam....8) :D

But Venlafaxine... I was prescribed this for around 5-6 Months, 150mg xr per day IIRC, unfortunately it didn't help, infact now looking back, it probably made me worse, even after countless G.P/Psychiatrist appointmets where i told them i felt it wasn't helping me any and that it was giving me daily suicidal thoughts, yet they insisted that i continue to take it.

After so long i couldn't handle it anymore so i requested that i be tapered off it. I'd previously tried Citalopram (SSRI) and Sertraline (SNRI) with little-no luck.

I really hope it suits you and does what it is supposed to do (Ive read many glowing reports with regards to Venlafaxine) so please dont let my experience put you off (im sure it won't) as you come across as an intelligent person who probably realises that different Anti-Depressants effect each one of us very differently and it can therefore take many trial and error runs before we find the one, or combination that works best for us.

I hope you dont mind me asking, how long and at what dose have you been on the Venlafaxine for? And also if/what Anti-Depressants you had tried before?
(PM me if you would prefer)

Btw it's now been 1 hour since my first 2x50mg(100mg) dose of Tramadol and im not feeling much different yet... Re-dose now or hang on until when?

Thanks.

Why don't you split it down the middle and drop another 50mgs like I mentioned I read on here recently that your body can only convert so much Tramadol at a time into O-Desmethyltramadol so it seems better to take it in smaller doses than bang a shed load all at once.

I've been on the Venlafaxine for quite a while at least 6 months maybe more, 150mgs XR and its the only AD I've managed to tolerate, SSRIs definitely don't agree with me. My GP surgery gave up prescribing me ADs and referred me back to a Psychiatric Doctor who prescribed me the Venlafaxine. My GP is a good guy and when ever I went back and said i wasnt getting on with an AD he changed it for another one, even when I went back and said I needed a break from going from one AD to another he was supportive and gave me good advice on what I needed to look out for in terms of my depression that would be warning signs I needed to go back to him ASAP.

I'm down to 10mgs of Diaz from a 3 figure a day habit and I'll be off by the end of the month, I get nothing off it now anyhow and have tapered pretty slowly so it should be all good.

I've smashed up my knee in a motorcycle accident hence the pain killers so that's all legit, it's MS Contin anyhow so no real hit to be had there, I need them for the pain anyhow and have no intention of picking up an opiate habit despite the obvious attraction.

@atm

So you suggest 50mg Tramadol say every 30-60 minutes rather than 100mg every 90-120 minutes?

From what I understand you are likely to get a better hit that way, so hopefully end up doing less and get more, I knew I'd seen this info recently:-

Cheers boss.

Your a diamond ;)

Unfortunately ive already ingested 200mg spread out over two seperate 100mg doses 90 minutes apart.

so my next 4 doses will be 50mgs each spread out 30 minutes apart.

Sound ideal?

EDIT : I have plenty of 1mg Alprazolam + 10mg Diazepam tabs close to hand, the temptation to take some is almost unbearable..... good idea/bad idea???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

i always found diazepam helps the tramadol take hold, especially if theres a sleeping tablet in the mix but cant comment on dihydro cause im new to it

Also helps with seizure risk but that's not to say you should take any more tramadol than you already are. Seizures have been reported at lower than 400mg although rare...
