Very quick q.

I'm out with friends tonight (UK) and take 100mg of Dosulpein. A TCA similar to Ami/Nor-Triptyline.

A friend has a little coke.

Is that mixture okay? Never mixed the two.

Also taken Valium this morning for anxiety but feeling fine now.

Massive back pain at the mo so may taken 10mg of oxy. (Which is what i take Dosulepin for)

Think the dopamine effects of Dosulepin and coke would be okay?

It's a high chance of disaster.

Cocaine effects serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine...

Your TCA is a SNRI... It affects serotonin and norepinephrine...

So, you have a chance of something nasty.

Thanks for the reply Jay.

I used to take a very, very high dose of Venlafaxine (Effexor) at 487.5mg when the maximum licensed dose was 375mg so always used to stay clear of MDMA/Cocaine.

In the end my back ended up hurting so much I snubbed the Coke and took some Ketoprofen and Oxycodone and went home to bed.

Yeah, TCA's + cocaine = bad idea, for potentially more than one reason.

Are you or anyone else able to be a bit more specific?

Some people say they will just counter-effect each other and I'd have felt no high from the coke. Others have said it could've flooded my brain with dopamine and been dangerous in that respect.

I didn't take it either way.

Yeah, risk of serotonin syndrome, risk of seizure, risk of dangerous cardiac event - those are the main ones that come to mind and which I'd worry about.

Mixing any tricyclic with cocaine is not a good idea for a few reasons. For one most of them are cardiotoxic to some degree and dosulepin is among the worst up there with amitriptyline. They have a effect on the heart not unlike cocaine actually. Another thing is that tricyclics are known to lower the seizure threshold and so does cocaine so yeah.

Dosulepin is basically a tricyclic that acts as a SNRI as well as having strong anti-cholinergic properties. So you could get some drug interaction there with the norepinephrine reuptake as well.

Basically it's just a really bad idea. If you actually need this medication don't stop taking it. Just skip the coke as it's a shit drug anyway.
