Hi,

So, monday I was trying to IV some dope which I had been IV-ing all day before (friend helped me). I am fairly new to IV-ing so I wanted to inject myself cause I was alone at home and the friend was not around.

I prepped a shot with 6 units of water + dope in it, 6 units in the smallest insulin syringe, I think it is 0.6mL? (Syringe 1mL) and I shot it, no blood came when I tried to register but there was a small air bubble in the syringe so I thought thats why, anyway I was really fucked up too, I should have taken the rig out and try to hit again. So regardless, I injected it and didn't feel it (cause I missed, takes longer) so I decided to shoot another one, in the same fucking place and again no blood registering. (WTF was I doing)

So now, I have an oval hard lump under my skin, doesnt seem swollen/red and it is not painful, right where I missed twice. (under my armpit vein).

It is the size of an capsule, or usual oval sized pill. There is no redness and it is not visible with bare eye, I need to stretch my arm out and the place.

So what should I do? Should I go into the ER?

First of all I think you meant 60 units, not 6. There's 100 units in a standard 1ml syringe. 6 units would be hard to resolve much in.

Next, under your armpit vein? I've never tried to hit there. Seems like it would be hard to angle right so I'm not surprised you missed. I always just go for the typical crock of my arm. Easiest place to hit if you're new.

I don't think you need to go to the ER unless it gets worse. Just keep an eye on it. Maybe get a marker and circle it and if it grows instead of shrinks then it may be doctor time. I'm not sure what else exactly to look for since I've never really missed a shot.

Sorry, I hit it in the other side of the elbow, I don't know how to call it in english. The easiest place to hit and where I have my best vein.

If it's not red or painful you should be fine AFAIK. I've had these a few times, and the only time it got bad was when it was red & sore and kept getting worse. It might have all been in my head, but I feel like taking hot showers & applying pressure helped them go away faster in the days following the injection(s).

Though if it gets worse, do not hesitate to seek medical treatment.

Get a HOT towel/washcloth/whatever and cover the affected area to reduce swelling, do this multiple times a day, what has happened is that since you missed you basically IM'ed the dope and whatever cut was in it. The dope you shouldn't be worried about, it will eventually absorb into the blood stream, but heat helps this process along. If after a few days it's still hasn't gotten better or starts turning color, I would suggest getting it checked out, you don't want a full blown abscess.

Some advice on IV'ing, if your having problems registering, after you do see the blood rush into the needle, very slowly push down and if any stinging is felt immediately stop pushing as you have went through the vein most likely. And you will definitely know if you hit an artery ha, which of course is extremely dangerous.

Good advice. I've seen people starting out patient but struggling to hit and then when they see that blood they get overexcited and forget to keep taking it slow.

This has been covered multiple times...

It sounds like you need a lot more experience and information before you consider attempting to inject yourself again because you can really hurt yourself. Have your friend show you first hand what to do when hitting yourself.. it's the best way to learn, provided he knows what he's doing and practices safe technique.

Read the IV Megathread in my signature.. especially the part about "Missed hits".

Never push down on the plunger and actually inject if you didn't register properly... that is why we register.. to make sure we are in a vein.

If the missed injection site gets worse, go to a doctor or an ER.. That's about the only thing anyone here can tell you to do.
