Opioids Missed shot?

I was shooting my second round of OC tonight and the second injection was slightly weird. (before anyone says anything about shooting pills... It was filtered with a millipore 0.22um micron filter and sterile 0.9% sodium chloride). I hit the bend of my elbow, registered the shot and began pushing the IV. At no point did I go through the vein or pull out.. I noticed a slight balloon effect while pushing. It was very very minor. There was no pain at all so I know I didn't miss the vein but the injection site is ever so slightly swollen.

Again, no pain or burn at all and no irritation. I put a warm compress on it for a few minutes followed by a light coat of neosporin (every time). The sight is just barely swollen still and doesn't hurt. My only guess is that I shot right in front of a valve or something?

I am not terribly worried because the entire procedure was sterile. (from alcohol swabs, no heat, micron filtering, and sterile saline) but I am just lookin for a couple opinions of what caused the very minor swelling. (it isn't a hard bump or anything, just ever so slightly raised). Like I mentioned above... Did I probably just get too close to a valve? Imput is welcome.

I know for next time which spot to avoid. I usually shoot an inch in front or behind the bend of my elbow. Also want to mention the syringe was a 29g 1/2" insulin syringe.

Thanks everyone.

Edit:: just wanted to add.. I am fairly unimpressed with IV oxycodone. Whatever "rush" I am supposed to get I hardly feel. The only thing I really notice is that my pupils instantly turn to pin points and the nod is 5x stronger. For reference: my daily oxy habit is down to 40-90mg per day typically snorted and I was shooting 40mg with such small results.

Since the BA of oxycodone is close to 100% anyways, you probably are unimpressed with IV as a ROA because you did a relatively low dose.

How much liquid were you injecting and how quickly did you push it in?

So even though my daily dose is between 40-90mg you think it would take closer to 60-80mg to feel a rush? For a 40mg injection I am using about 55units of saline. Iirc the solubility is 1ml-100mg so I believe the liquid amount is correct. I push at a rate of roughly 1sec per 10 units.

With the micron filters I am using I have no noticeable fluid loss even when I start with a dry filter. Also I want to note that the slight swelling is totally gone and there is no soreness at any of my injection sites. No bruising or anything.. Hell after about 50 minutes you can't even see the spot I hit my arm. In a way I am glad that this ROA isn't impressing me. It is something that I have no desire to do daily. I take my meds for pain but I don't mind the occasional nod.

I'm not a big user of oxy but that's what I would think, yes.

I totally understand why you are choosing not to do it often, good choice.

And also, congrats on using a micron filter, many IDU's do not choose (or have the ability) to use a micron filter.

Don't you remember our long pm chat about micron filters? :). If I am going to shoot shit into a vein I am going to do it as safe as possible. Hell, if it will take my entire daily dose to even feel a rush, I don't see myself using IV ROA very often.

Thanks for the imput. My arm is back to normal now anyways. You can't even see either injection marks from today anymore. I thank alcohol swabs and neosporin for that :)

I sure do! :)

Triple antibiotic ointment like neosporin is a great thing to use for your track marks.

I use the IV ROA more than I once envisioned myself using, so I am also glad I use micron filters.

yeah thanks for miceons.. never thought id choose to shoot not smoke, but here i am.. at the start i used to rush off 40 mg oxy iv, and i thought i had a tollerance... how things change
