so about 5 hours ago i iv'd 30mg of roxie and im pretty sure it was a missed shot
it registered but i guess it moved or something..

now my arm is hurting and its hot in the spot i hit and my skin feels hard and tight inside and my arm is swollen

i had put a hot compress on it and nothing really happened so i put a cold compress on it and now i have nothing on it but it is hurting pretty bad.

is there a way i could make the swelling go down and prevent this from getting worse?

if this thread is in the wrong place please move it.

thank you.. please help!

It depends if you hit an artery or not. If an artery you should go to the hospital and they will give you blood thinners and try and keep circulation in your extremity (fasciotomy if bad perhaps?). If it is just under your skin or in your muscle somewhere then you will just want to keep it warm to help the drugs dissolve and monitor it for an abscess. A little aspirin to help thin your blood might help as well.

When it doubt get help though.

Edit: I've seen a poster around her recently, 'swom' I think, who lost a few fingers trying to IV demerol.

i didnt hit an artery i know that. ive been using the same vein the past few days.. its red and hurt. its like hard where i hit and its about 3 or 4 inches and is swollen and hurts real bad when i bend.. do i put ice on it or a hot compress?

Okay here's a link to the injection complication mega thread which should answer most of your questions.

I'd say (solely my opinion) heat will help more than ice at first, but after 6 hours or so once all the drugs have dissolved and the clot has formed ice might help prevent/bring down the swelling. Asprin will help swelling and prevent clotting but will slightly increase the chance of an embolism with Ibuprofen your next best option for swelling.

i had taken a benadryl about 4 hours ago.. i dont have any asprin in my room which sucks. is there a chance this can be the start of an absess? and if not what could it possibly be? thats my concern right now. my arm is just very hot and its hard as a rock all by my vein and its really painful when i move or bend my arm or touch it

Likely thrombosis, the hard part is your blood vessel filled with coagulated blood. Read the megathread link I posted above. If an abscess develops later then it is very treatable and is basically a big pimple. You won't know that for a few days at least though.

its going to go back to normal more than likely, im not a pro just a seasoned iv user and done more than enough of shooting pills. 30s aint the worse pill to shoot but its not great(trust me if you gave me one thats the only way i'd do it) usually when i shoot pills even if its a perfect hit theirs usually a slight miss. I learned that filtering it like 2 or 3 times helps alot with this problem though. now as far as bringing the swelling down i usually take a hot shower or bath. Soaking it seemed to really help, perhaps a damp towel?

it was 2 15mg roxies.. i hate pills but for now thats all i can get my hands on.. by the time i wake up will it be looking better or worse? i can barely move my arm let alone pick anything up with it.

Likely worse. Swelling peaks at 24 hours I believe? But the bruising will become more visible at it heals. At the moment skin looks red and dry but it will eventually turn dark blue and go through all the stages. I had the same thing from taking a football helmet to the gut and it was like a 4 inch pencil under my skin with a black handsized bruise around it which was completely unoticible in maybe 2 weeks.

i guess il have to wear long sleeves in south fl to cover that up since where i am im not supposed to be using at all. will the vein go back to normal and be useable again eventually?

I honestly don't know. I would think it depends on if you blew the vein or not. Still not even sure about a thrombosis though as it could just be a missed shot and the firmness is just the drug and swelling in which case it will heal much faster. It's almost impossibly hard to tell without being there with you. Sorry. Good luck though! Make sure you read through the guide on injection to prevent it from happening again.

Relax, it will be fine. Just keep an eye on it and seek medical attention if it shows signs of infection. Some oxy should help with the pain;)

yeah i just read through it.. thanks. im going to go to bed and see how it is when i get up in the morning and let you guys know whats going on with it when i wake .. good night

So I just woke up and right nowmy arm feels even more swollen and It is burning hot. I also feel like I have a fever but it's probably unrelated. I just feel like shit all around and can barely move my arm at all. If anything i think it got worse. There has to be some way to get this swelling down.

Haha gotta love eastern standard time eh?

Ice 20min on 20min off or whatever will help for keep it from swelling anymore in the next 12 hours or so. Besides anti-inflammatories like ibu or aspirin that's about it. If you do have a fever be very watchful for infection.

edit: also try to rest the arm as much as possible and avoid anything which will get your heart rate up.

I've been sweating profusely with a fever and the swelling hasnt went down and it's still warm the area it's in is still all red and warm. I'm wondering if this is going to get better or if i should just go to urgent care?

^You have most all of the clinical symptoms for an infection, you really ought to go to urgent care ASAP. You don't want to wait around for another day or two and lose an arm or worse...

The continued swelling is expected but I'm not so sure about the fever. It could just be part of the reaction your body is having to the foreign substance in it (like an allergic reaction), or it could be the sign of an infection or something else. No one can tell you if you need to go to the hospital except you.
