Heroin Missed a vein

ummmm ive had worse in my earlier days....It should go down fairly quick OP....Pain might stay for a few days...

It's only been a few hours about an inch diameter and it's very soft not hard or swollen yet, I kno the doctor is the best option but it could mean spending lots of money I don't have more legal and personal problems, if it gets hard or bigger I will definately be going but as of now I was just wondering some personal experiences, thank you for the replies

My immediate advice is fuck hospital bills, fuck all that, we are talking about potentially LOSING an arm here.

Get it checked out.

If you really wont do this get a marker and draw a circle around the swollen/red area and if it starts to spread out further then you have to get to the ER.

Yeah it is a very stupid idea not to go see a doctor ASAP. But I see no symptoms of infection yet it's not even warm to the touch, it's the bruising that is scary and makes it different from others I've had

Its hard to tell from a small picture. I'd wait 24hrs, if it hasn't gone down at all or if its in pain still, then I'd seek medical attention.

You can't see from such a small image like others have said.

I want to say "it's probably okay" because I've had way worse looking things happen to me from missed shots and I was usual fine, but there were several times where it didn't even look that bad, and I ended up in ICU. Dont fuck around. If its nothing, they'll most likely give you some antibiotics, and if it is something you can potentially save an arm.

Like someone above me said, draw an outline with a permanent marker. If the redness starts to expand, see a doctor ASAP, 'cause it probably means it's a spreading cellulitis.

And it being soft isn't necessarily a good thing...it could be filled with pus, meaning your body's natural defense against bacteria (neutrophils) are ramping up. Abscesses are nasty things.

You definitely should go to a doctor IMO, but if you're dead-set on not going till things become worse, just remember you may lose an arm. Best case scenario is you end up staying in the hospital getting loads and loads of IV antibiotics. This isn't something to fuck around with. If you go in early, they may be able to simply drain and and send you off with a script for oral antibiotics. In the end you'll save money by going earlier.

..and to reregister halfway through the shot-it won't delay the rush if your quick about it. The only time when it's not good to do so is if your shooting coke, then you want to use as little water as possible 20units max, register once, then plunge. Re-regegistering with coke is not good because of the vascular constriction that happens almost immediately, you will likely fall out of the vein if you take too much time.

I wait 3 days before making a decision. If after 3rd day, it seems to still be getting worse, then I seek treatment.
Don't forget that wiping w/ alcohol before a shot helps decrease chance of infection quite a bit too, for the future.

I've had a few abscesses. MOST of the time, they end up going away by themselves, but it's still a risk.
The worst I ever had was warm for one day only- because it was fighting off some sort of bacteria that had gotten in my skin, most likely. If it's warm for longer than a day, your body could very well be having some trouble fighting off the bacteria, which means go to a hospital.
Drawing a circle around it to monitor size is a good idea, like someone said already.
And put some cold compresses on it to keep swelling and inflammation down, that should increase your odds of it going away without causing you trouble.

Actually, I've heard of putting cold compresses on it, but also to put a hot compress on it. Anyone have any ideas which is better? Just out of curiosity.

Yea that looks about right... monitor it and use triple antibiotic on it, heroin is a drug you can muscle pop so you should be alright if your rig was sterile and if it wasn't watch it but you should be ok. I used to bang crystal and I have had way worse misses. I know it can worry you I know I have been, and i was lucky. I know you'll be lucky too. For more information on safe shooting go to

Do NOT put a warm compress on an infection. You're incubating an infection by doing that. Cold is the time tested remedy for inflammation. Like I said, heat is good for relaxing muscles, but putting heat on the site of an infection is liable to cause it to spread even quicker.

Wiping with alcohol is very important.. you don;t want to push bacteria or somethign into the blood stream. Actually one pamphlet I read said to wipe the area 100 times and I thought to my self I would go through like 20 alcohol pads if I tried that. I just give it a quick scrub.

After the injection do not use alcohol becuase it will make you continue to bleed. You can use just water or soapy water if anything.

And about the 3 day rule you mention.. really he has to be hte one to use discression becuase 3 days might be ok in most cases but 3 days is also enough time for certain virus's/bacteria to totally take over and it may be too late.

I wanna say in this case the swelling will probably go down and its fine but I dont feel safe giving that advice.. truth is you should 100% go to a doctor. They will not look down on you..they know how hard it is to come in and admit some shit like that ya know? And i mean imagine loosing your arm becuase you are scared what they will say/think and if you will be able to afford the bill.
