That’s the type of loaded question that Sarah Palin or Hilary Clinton would totally mishandle, but Campanella fielded it like Brooks Robinson:

“Well, I understand why that question would be asked, especially with today’s economy, but I also understand that medical marijuana is very important to help those who need it medically,” Campanella said. “I’m not sure if it should be legalized, if it would really affect, with the drug war.

“I mean, it’s abused today, unfortunately, so that’s the only reason why I would kind of be a little bit against it, but medically, it’s OK.”

This is why I hate shit like Miss America pageants. They're basically saying, "This is the standard of what this country considers to be the most beautiful." and that message reaches and sets in the minds of millions of girls. Very hypocritical, considering over 60% of the US population is overweight or obese and this woman looks like she hasn't eaten in a week.

Women are made to feel bad if they have a body almost anywhere on the bell curve.
Only the ones in the top 10% for bust size, as well as the lowest 10% for stomach, are considered "sexy" by the media. Very few women are in both clubs.
This has the effect of encouraging 98% of women to have a negative body image.
So sad.

Only women with a certain look can get on TV, whereas men can get on TV based on their talent (with looks playing a relatively minor role).

Parents tell their children to focus on what is on the inside, but the message is drowned out by the media's incessant roar.

I got rid of my TV 20 years ago, and have never missed it (except a few times during the world series or world cup). Now I have kids, and they actually draw, and read, and play games that aren't on a computer. I hope to shield them from the media's limiting perspectives on bodies, though I know that it is largely impossible. Still, at least they are able to develop the ability to exist in a location without media playing in the room, and to learn to create with their own hands.
