Stimulants Mirtazapine (remeron) decreasing amphetamine effectiveness?

Hey guys,

I've searched Google, to no avail. I have been taking Mirtazapine (remeron) for several months now. I recently began IVing amphetamine sulphate again, but the same stuff is not proving nearly as effective as it did several months ago. I think this antidepresent might be responsible.

It takes about 300mgs of VERY PURE amphetamine sulphate for me to get high. My eyes dialate and the whole deal, but mentally, I'm just not that speedy. Judging my the length of this post something isn't right, lol.

Can Mirtazapine be blocking receptors that the amphetamine uses and therefore DESTROYING my goddamn high? What a waste of drugs... I know it blocks serotonin receptors but could it be blocking the dopamine ones too?

It blocks some of the adrenergic receptors (responsible for the activity of norepinephrine/adrenaline) and also blocks histamine H1, which produces sedative effects that will counteract amphetamine's stimulation somewhat.
 
Im prescribed Mirtazapine for long term sleep help and adderall for adhd.

In my experiences the Mirtazapine hasn't had any effect on the effects of adderall even when taken at recreational doses.


Perhaps try a couple days off the Mirtazapine and see if it has an impact?
 
As sekio said mirtazapine is a adrenergic receptor antagonist (a2a and a2c) and H1 receptor antagonist (its an inverse agonist at 5ht2c but thats besides the point in this case).
Its these antagonist effects that is dulling your high.
Good news is that mirtazapine has little affinity for dopamine receptors so the actual 'high' of amphetamine shouldnt be reduced but the 'rush' you normally get from I.v administration will be.
Best advice would be to leave the needle and just take your amphetamine orally.
You will lose some of that rush either way but oral ROA is a hell of a lot kinder on your body.

Also its not good advice to stop taking your anti-depressant without a doctors guidence.
I personally take mirtazapine and trust me, not taking it for a couple days is very unpleasant.
