Mirtazapine and the effects it has on psychedelics

I have just recently found out that mirtazapine basically blocks the effects of lsd and shrooms. I am currently taking 15mg a day for depression but have only been taking it for 2 weeks. Now that i have found out that it has these effects on psychedelics i am stopping taking it. I am wondering how long it will take till i can take lsd again without the effects being effected in anyway. anyones thoughts on this please

I had the same problem with prozac. I was on 20mg a day. Then I realised that 100mg 5htp and 150mg suntheanine before bed had the same anti-depressive effect as 20mg prozac *and* it pleasantly increases the effects of psychedelics, and it's not ssri, and it has no side effects for me. I was prescribed mirtazapine years ago because I needed a mild sedative too. Anyhows, long story short: I would guess that the relaxing properties of suntheanine along with the serotonin boosting qualities of good pure 5htp will help you. BUT - this is something you should discuss with your GP!!

Since it is used for sleep (i.e. it starts working quickly) I wouldn't think it would last very long in your system, the half-life is about 20-40 hours so I would say within a week you could be good to go. Something like an SSRI takes a month or so before it really starts working and the same time frame to stop effecting you. I would guess how long it took for it to really start working for you would be a rough gauge of how long off of it it would take.

I'm prescribed amitriptyline, and although it's a tricyclic not a tetracyclic it is also used for sleep and my psych told me to not take it the day before if I were to do LSD. However that was for the fact that it would make the LSD too strong, not that it wouldn't work at all.

I am on 30mg, I take it at night before I go to bed as most people do. I tend to trip at night more often than not. So, the day I trip I replace the Mirtazapine with my drug of choice. I take the meds after I've come down, in fact it's a very useful pill for helping me get to sleep after tripping.

I have noticed no effect one way or another on the strength of my trips. some report reduced effects, some even report potentiation. YMMV. :)

Edit: I have noticed that if I take my pill during a trip, it will dampen if not completely kill the effects of the psychedelics, either way it tends to knock me out.

Thanks alot mate this info is very helpful and i will be trying it first thing. Will report back once i have my next trip :D

Any input on mirtazapine + dissociatives? I'll save the clutter of a new thread since it's within the same realm of hallucinogens.

Good stuff, will be interested to hear your results. The 5htp gives you C-razy, vivid dreams, if you take 100mg just before bed. =D
Dont' forget your diet too. Plenty of tyrosine, betaine, tryptophan and try to avoid msg because it messes with the glutamate in the brain and research is currently centering around anti-depressants that address in reducing higher than average glutamate in depressive patients. Just some thoughts, but *always* consult with your doctor...we're all one, but we're certainly not all wired the same :)

i am slightly confused on the diet part of things what types of foods are good for the above or just get supplements and also what is msg? :S

A good, balanced diet is fine, obviously, but if you get the chance, do some google research about foods that will boost your serotonin and dopamine. :) msg is monosodium Glutamate. Evidence is pointing to depressed people having too much of it in the brain. That's why it's suggested to try to avoid it. Ketamine, which is being developed as a potential anti-depressant, releases all the pent-up glutamate in the brain, therefore making it a good anti-depressant. Just try to avoid msg-rich foods, such as from your local chinese takeaway. And google-up on it!! :)

Ok will do so the staying away from takeaways will be abit of a problem like but i will cut down. Gna get some supplements from holland and barrett to help on that end. Ive stopped taking my mirtazapine from last night so will i wait a week before i start taking the 5htp,etc

Ketamine has been shown, by Yale, to help 'repair' nerves damaged from stress along with acting as an anti-depressant but the effects of which don't last much past a week. From first hand experience I can back that up :P

*Also on a side note MSG looks kinda like real primo K haha

Remember to consult with your gp. We're all wired differently. What may work for me may not work for you. Keep a close eye on effects and keep up the good relationship with your gp. And it's not just your chinese takeaways that contain so much msg. Have a really good scout around on google and find out all about it and try to avoid building it up in your system. =D

I cant really think of what to say to my gp. I can hardly say i want to stop taking my anti depressants cause the only reason is that i want to be able to take psychedelics. Although i could go down the route of saying i want to try the natural and herbal route of anti depressants, rather than being on prescriptions. Do you reckon that would be the way of going about it?

It's purely up to you how you go about it. I'm simply relaying what I've recently done, and it's working well for me. I hope it works well for you too. =D Psychedelics can have a very positive effect on your life, too, as long as you are entering into a beneficial spiritual partnership with your drug of choice and hope to gain access to knowledge and wisdom that will change your life and the planet for the better. Good luck! =D

Btw, one of the worst culprits for msg is crisps. dorritos are shite for it. I reckon *any* person with anxiety/depression history need to make a conscious decision to avoid msg.

Cheers pal for the help. Thats my girl fucked anyways she absolutely loves all crisps like wotsits and cheese and onion. I do use my drug of choice as a guide to help me find wisdom and knowledge, also mainly it greatly helps me and my girl get threw any problems we are having and helps us talk things threw.

Gna have to shift my diet abit tbh cuz everything you have mentioned is what i would eat. Not the healthiest once it comes to foods although the past few weeks i have been making changes :)

if you suffer from anxiety/depression, *any* forms of shitty fast food (kfc, mcdonalds, burger king) is going to make things worse in the long run. Not to say that fast food treats and crisps should be *totally* off the menu, I mean, it's up to you, but just bear in mind that your diet will aid you greatly. Lots of tyrosine, tryptophan, serotonin, vitamin C, betaine. Think about eggs, spinach, cheese, banana, blueberries, apple, jalapeno, dried coriander leaf, wholemeal bread, flax seeds, grapeseed oil, beetroot, do your homework. http://www.nutritionvalue.org/ . Btw, these are the best and cheapest sources of 5htp and suntheanine Ive found. 5htp and suntheanine the 5htp is pure (no b6 added) and works a treat....good stuff. And it's good value!! Good luck dude!

Again IME it appears to have absolutely no effect on the dissociative experience.

I agree on the short lived anti depressant effects of k. Fuck someone on this site did an experiment where they took small doses ... Barely feeling them... For depression... And It worked. If only I could remember who did it. I used to know. Maybe kadijah? Fuck. I experienced this effect personally. From pretty severe depression. Will just fuck u up if u have no self control wit it. But if I only had say .1 itd work like a fuckin charm.
