Hello to all the opiate users out there. I just wanted to tell all of you about this stuff I used last night that literally saved my ass, magnesium citrate.
I use opiates and sometimes I get the worst constipation in the world. I've tried stool softeners, laxitives and all kinds of OTC stuff and none of it worked for me so I started searching for something new and I came across this magnesium citrate stuff. Now it only costs $3(I hope it's not against the rules to post price of the shit meds?LOL!) so I wasn't to confident it would work considering how much all the stool softeners and laxitives cost and they did fuck all. So I said fuck it and drank the bottle and 5hrs later I was having a beautiful bowel movement. Ahhhh sweet relief :)
This stuff is mad strong. if it worked for me it'll work for anybody!
Sry for posting about my taking a shit but opiate users will certainly understand what a lot of us go through with the damned constipation, and then to to find something to give some relief, well I had to spread the word. I got it at Walgreens but I'm guessing it's probably at most pharmacies. I promise this stuff will work! U gotta dring like 16oz of water with it but it's ooooooh so worth it :)

Thanks for this bro! Asn an opiod lover this does occur sometimes of course, thanks for your informative post.

I'm glad it helped! This stuff was a lifesaver. It was such a relief to know I won't have so suffer everytime I get really backed up so I had to post about it cause I know a lot of us deal with this shit. I've really suffered a buncha times so it's great to find something that'll work.

Moved to basics, after hitting moved I feel it may be better suited to 'Healthy Living' I know that constipation from pain meds is often discussed in there.

Well, it's actually because all these magnesium formulae have such poor bioavailability that they end up not getting absorbed at all and rather induce diarrhoea! That's quite crazy if you look close at it.

Actual magnesium supplements are these amino acid chelated ones, like Mg bisglycinate etc. - Mg oxide gets absorbed <10%, citrate maybe 20-30% ... the chelated versions 80-90%. High dose magnesium can actually help (some bits) of tolerance development possibly. But NMDA antagonists are certainly more powerful, the Mg thing's quite possibly only true when you're deficient and/or placebo.

I vouch for daily consumption of mag citrate all the time. It (mostly) prevents constipation from happening and you get your daily dose of magnesium at the same time, it's a win/win.

TBH though I don't find effective if I'm already constipated. I've never gotten diarrhea or loose stools from it nor has it even induced a bowel movement for me... the effect it has on me is much less than it does for you cliffy, unfortunately.

As far as tolerance goes I've noticed no difference in tolerance development, and I have had plenty of time to draw conclusions being on and off of magnesium for long periods of time while also using opioids daily... much to weak an NMDA antagonist to have any noticeable effect on opioid tolerance.

I can 100% agree that Magnesium Citrate gets the job done. Sadly I didn't know they sold it at Walgreens/Most pharmacies I'd assume. So I got to experience something OTC at the hospital :/ But note @ {{ Plasticity }} (I hope that was correct) I /believe/ the Enema did most of the work. But it seemed like the Magnesium Citrate helped the following day. I believe I had to drink... 8-12oz's of it. Also word to the wise, it's /much/ better over ice. Though if you're like me, you're going to want it gone asap, so you chug the bottle! Minus what she already put in ice. Much... much... better in ice. I also thought it was water, so... I was just having a bad day. So next trip to walgreens. Pick up a fair bit (Dependant on price) of Mag Citrate, and some Enema's.

And yeah, very little tolerance gain while taking Magnesium supplements. Or not taking them. Just very weak NMDA antagonist.

Holy cow man! great info thank you for that.

Idk about the pharmacology of this stuff but I know it worked like a charm.
I get really really big very hard stools sometimes and like I said I tried many OTC meds with little to no effect but this stuff worked great and I didn't have to rip my asshole apart pushing out something the size of a small child, lol.
IF NOTHING ELSE WORKS FOR YOU THEN GIVE THIS STUFF A TRY! FOR 3 BUCKS U CANT GO WRONG...

Indeed, Cliffy! Thanks for sharing =D...I've tried to spread the word of MC, whether for idiopathic constipation, post surgery, or pain management meds. I hate the funky taste, which blows my hubby's mind. Yet he "enjoys" the taste of Alka Seltzer, so what can I say?

Actually, I can't tolerate bowel prep for colonoscopy (every 2 years). A nurse once pitied me and brought an iced cup of MC, along with a handful of Dulcolax. I was passing grey matter by morning!

The MC is quite cheap at Dollar General...about $1.25 to $1.50 per bottle.

Y'all be vigilant in keeping your bowels moving. I thought Miralax twice daily was adequate until I spent late October in hospital for partial bowel obstruction. WOW...was I wrong! It's posted in Pain Management mega thread. I'm often told I'm full of shit. I have no defense!

Seriously, though, unbeknownst to me until pain floored me...My colon was distended like a helium balloon. I couldn't move it with any method whatsoever. I'm better after many days of IV fluids and drinking Go-Lite daily while hospitalized. I birthed a turd water baby, I think. I understand, Cliffy...I really do!

Magnesium Citrate worked great for me. I was just prescribed Magnesium Oxide 400 mg that produced excellent results the next day. It's is not a diarrhea type either just a pleasant movement.

Lol, turd water baby, haaaaaaa!
It's just sooo brutal though, I'm glad ur feeling better Dixie! This stuff is certainly a life saver as far as I'm concerned. I read a bunch of reviews on it since yesterday and it seems to work great for about 75% of people, sucks to be that other 25%. I wouldn't use this stuff daily though, seems way too powerful kinda like drinking draino or something. I liked the taste too, it was like grape fanta, almost seemed carbonated. Happy poops to everyone! :o

try miralax...man opiates is wicked when it comes to trying to take a decent shit im 27 i been fucking with opiates since i was 15 i havent made a decent bowel movement since 2004 no BS im talking about going weeks even months without shitting even once and when i do shit its so overpacked and hard i cant even sit on the toilet i gotta shit on newspaper like a dog squatting down on the ground and one of my homeboys had constipation so bad his girlfriend started thinking he was in the closet/gay because he kept using enemas which is real dumb but still she started spreading that rumor but when i had got admitted to the hospital they gave me miralax its powder so you just mix it with juice or soda even in water and drink it then wait like a hour or so and you wont even notice that you had any opiates that day eventually thats how regular your gonna be shitting just try it oh and dont waste money on stool softners OTC they are trash im telling you and if your anything like me when i get opiate constipation and finally shit after weeks its literally sodomy i mean even down to the point of blood its serious

Im 43, I don't have a problem with it just nice to talk to those with life experiences that includes our issues rather than high school kids experimenting for the first time. Great site however

I don't mind old man status, I'm 57. BTW, I have started using a stool softener and it's been a God send. The only complaint I have is that after the initial blockage is through, it still works for a couple of days and I damn near need a half a toilet paper roll to clean up ~ Sorry! I don't think I could ever take it every day. For the most part I'm good for weeks on end but there usually comes a point where the days start rolling by without going and I kind of get a gut ache (sharp pains down there). I then take the softener pills and voila, it's all done by the next morning. I may give the mag a try in the near future. Thanks!
