Mike Tyson arrested for coke and DUI (Updated 11/19/07)

No I don't think she'd get 4-7. I also think her past charges aren't as strong as him. I guess my point was that you seem to really want to bring race into this case, but from where I'm standing this appears to be pretty cut and dry. The man has a criminal history, is pulled over for reckless/erratic driving, has coke on his person, his dash, and on the seat next to him. He then explains he cannot help himself when it's around. With his priors, and the circumstances here, 4-7 (is that granted or a max?) seems at least kind of reasonable to me. I'd need to re-read the several articles on the first page to say for sure whether I agree with the time, but then again I'm really in no place to make that call as I don't know much about the ins/outs of our legal system as much as I'd like to.

But that's what I was trying to say before, you seem to be bringing race into a case where it's really not an issue. I can absolutely see you bringing in race with the jenna 6 stuff, and I did agree the system was fuct and the situation was fuct, I just diverged when people started thinking that, because those redneck assholes had it coming to them, that the kids who jumped him (and I'm not even going to say 6 assaulters. Based on fights I've seen, if 4 of your boys are stomping a kid, the other 2 usually don't just sit and watch, but we'll wait for the <hopefully more diverse than the original one> to decide on this.

I never tried to argue you that there isn't separate legal systems based on circumstances, and never said justice was blind in our country. But let me ask you this: Do you think, given his priors (doesn't he have rape charges? didn't he bite a dude's ear off?), in a situation where he was driving erratically, then pled guilty to coke possession / DUI, that a 4-7 year is really that unreasonable?

Didn't think so either...

Like it or not, most of our institutions in our society treat people accordingly based on their race, gender, class... usually, as you are perfectly displaying, white, middle- class or rich, Male, hetrosexuals don't have to deal with racism, sexism or issues such as affordable housing. Thus, they cannot relate and do not see certain situations as they truly are.

But let me ask you this: Do you think, given his priors (doesn't he have rape charges? didn't he bite a dude's ear off?) a situation where he was driving erratically, then pled guilty to coke possession / DUI, that a 4-7 year is really that unreasonable?,

He did his time for those crimes... Whereas, Lohan and Paris, it seems every 6 months or so, they get pulled over for driving under the influnce on various mind altering substances. Yet, they don't even face any charges. Now that is unacceptable.

Anyways, I don't want to hijack this thread anymore

Mike Tyson Sentenced to 1 Day in Jail
November 19, 2007

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was sentenced Monday to 24 hours in jail and three years' probation for drug possession and driving under the influence.

Tyson had pleaded guilty in September to a single felony count of cocaine possession and a misdemeanor DUI count.

Tyson faced a maximum of four years and three months in prison.

The charges stemmed from a traffic stop in Scottsdale last December.

Police pulled Tyson over after the boxer had spent the evening at Scottsdale's Pussycat Lounge.

An officer said he saw Tyson wiping a white substance off the dashboard of his black BMW, and that his speech was slurred.

Authorities said they found bags of cocaine in Tyson's pocket and in his car.

ya, it does suck ass, but there's a part of me inside that's just fucking pissed to hear someone with priors getting caught driving, almost hitting a police car (or did he actually hit it?), having multiple bags of coke in the car, and get ONE FUCKING DAY!? So fucking sick of people being like 'if you have money it's a different legal system'. Fuck that, it's 'if you're famous, it's an *entirely* different legal system'. Last I heard tyson was broke as fuck, this doesn't make sense.

I wonder if it's only in america where there are 2 sets of laws - one for the rich, connected, and powerful, the other for the rest of us. Are the wealthy given such blatant preferential treatment in other countries (EU, canada, australia, etc) as well?

I'd have to imagine so, this seems like a general sociological thing and I don't see why it would be limited to here. Hell, I wouldn't be shocked if cash/influence took you waaay further in other countries (I think we can all agree it goes WAY further in poorer countries). But you see this shit with that amy winehouse singer, pete doherty, kate moss. I don't know much on their stories and apologize if I put a wrong name there, but those are some that you hear about regularly getting in trouble, but never really getting in trouble. Like snoop!
