What does the bold bit mean in English?
 
I'm probably totally out of my depth to explain this, but irreversible agonists bond so tightly to the receptors in the brain that they never get kicked off(dissociate). Depending on how strong the drug is, it can kill you very quickly, or in the case of redosing, over time.

There are people in EADD with much more scientific training than me, but I do believe that's right? I need to finish schooling....
 
Yeah that's right. Its how people get brain damage from carbon monoxide - it takes oxygens place on the haemoglobin and won't let go. Not a drug example but a fun one all the same.

(Edit: this example was perhaps poorly thought out as it has nothing to do with receptors, however it does deal with the chemistry side of things).

Morphling is already phoning a Chinese lab and trying to source a few Kg's of what he's called Carbon BiOxide, it's a legal version of Carbon Monoxide! 8o
 
Just read the opening post through (journo article/advert). Its kinda interesting but fails to recognise that quantity is currently prevailing over quantity in the RC circuit. Ethylphenidate is a poor mans ritalin, if it wasn't then ethylphen would have been given to kids with ADHD instead. The two drugs are so similar there is no way that they both didn't get trialled together in the earliest stages on animals when it was first engineered. Loop holes can be found in the law but the odds of bettering the original are not particularly good.

SHM- it means a drug that permenantly binds to a receptor and just stays there until the receptor is recycled by the body.

Thats nothing. There are even mobile homes like the one in Breaking Bad pumping this stuff out by the kilo.
 
Mike turned a bit nasty the last time he was at BL - I'm not sure he has much love for us anymore. I'm wondering what his police friends think about him creating this new drug tho - if in fact he ever did create it.

Big deal. I designed a designer drug way back: Trinitroamphetamine!

Start with ammonia. Replaced one of the hydrogens by a C2H5 group, giving ethylamine. Substitute the hydrogen opposite the amine grouo with a benzene ring, to give phenylethylamine. Substitute one of the hydrogens on the carbon connected to the amine group with a methyl group. Now, the benzene ring is numbered in Arabic numerals starting from where the first substitition joins it at 1, and the ethyl backbone is given Greek letters starting from its substitution (i.., the amine group). So the carbon atom with the methyl group is "numbered" α; giving alpha-methyl phenyl ethylamine. Amphetamine for short. Now, substitute the hydrogens at the 2, 4 and 6 positions on the benzene ring with NO2 groups to give (2, 4, 6)-trinitoamphetamine. (This, by the way, is a description of how the molecule looks, not a suggested synthesis.)

As far as likely effects, well, it's a speed / ecstasy type drug; but it also has a triply nitrated benzene ring, and therefore is subject to a particular class of reactions whose products tend to occupy a considerably larger volume than the reagents from which they were originally formed :) At a wild guess, you take this stuff, listen to a bit of music, get up to dance ..... and when your body temperature begins to rise from the effort of dancing, KABOOM!

If you did succeed in making the stuff (the major headache will be keeping the concentrated acids in the nitrating mixture away from the amine group), and weren't tempted to try it out, you probably would be safe, because The Authorities would be too busy fighting among themselves over whether to bust you for making drugs or explosives.
 
The first nitration is easy, but they get successively less energetically favourable, the third one is pretty tough given the steric hindrance and other funkiness you're encountering by then. The compound's not covered by the catch-all clause, and certainly no-one has thought to ban it explictly, so you're fine on drug law. Not so au fait with explosives legislation, given that I'm a wreckhead, not a domestic terrorist, but I presume that it is specific compounds that are prohibited, so if you were possessed of the unique blend of stupidity and capability to produce this, I think that's legally fine. Limpet Chicken is really the person to ask.
