I take off my shoes
so the grass can imprint
abstract designs on my ankles

the only obvious meditator
in Alexandra Gardens
down the steps from Princes Bridge

a precious day

sun gushing

gemgrass, river metallic

cars on City Rd
sounding like the ocean
(peaceful cars)

I slow,
stop thinking
for some seconds

then I remember
to take off my sunglasses

it becomes a lot brighter
behind closed eyes

I notice this,
then revisit the breath

a tentative breeze
feels for my face

I revisit the breath

until I hatch
from my trance-shell

look over at my shadow
(head made of grass)

*

Later that night
I meet my wife on the bridge

we gaze through the sci-fi city,
make new pledges,
smile out

a car squashing
a skater's stray deck
jolts us back in

Very calming...the poem pulled me right in at the abstract desgins on my ankles.

we all have really nice days sometimes, sitting out in the sun, but you are able to capture yours and use it to remind us of ours and its brilliant. thankyou.

Thank you all. It's great to know the poem had the intended effect. :)

I like the solidity of this piece. Very straight forward and clear.
