microwaving vegetables???

When you cook vegetables in water, drink/use the liquid. Don't just dump it down the drain. There be vi'amins in that water.

i can tell your kids (if you have them) will probably love you and think you are the best mom ever.
mom please mom can i have more asparagus water
dont let those precious vitamins go to waste

Do I have science to provide you on my claims? No I'm not that concerned with what you choose, but u should know in your gut what is best for you, and the microwave, harmless as it may be, just seems like so unnatural from an organic vegetable thriving way of eating...I don't even microwave water to heat it up for tea, I always use the stove. Maybe its' personal preference but the microwave seems very awkward to me, I don't even like standing near one while it's on b/c who knows what stuff it's radiating off it in the near radius?

You kind of need some science to justify these types of claims. Whether microwaved food tastes bad to you is a matter of preference (it often does), but whether microwaves disproportionately destroy nutrients (they don't) is a matter of objective study. And we DO know what "stuff" is radiating out: nothing with proper shielding. If there is somehow minor leakage, it will heat nearby objects an immeasurably small amount. If this scares you, throw out your wireless router and cell phone immediately.

Damn I want a clear answer on this as well, especially with protein. If I microwave frozen chicken breasts and what not does it make the protein not absorb as well in my body? Fuck...seers_eye has me worried now :(

What I would do if they are frozen, is put them in the microwave only to defrost. Then pan fry or bake, however you prepare normally.
My stepdad thinks microwaves are the devil. Even with simple things like baked beans or soup, he uses the stove.

I don't own and avoid microwaves when possible because they destroy the flavor of many different foods. I don't have on opinion on the healthiness but I am also interested in the topic. My main complaint is that microwaves damage the flavor of most food (even those microwave dinners taste better made in the oven).

Anyway, I'm also interested in whether or not using microwaves are as healthy as more traditional methods of heating.

I use a microwave and I'm fine with it. I smoke cigarettes too, take dietary supplements (not fda approved), spend a lot of time in the sun unprotected, so I think I got other issues that could be worth worrying about more than my radiowave cooking device. god forbid vibrating water molecules heat my food...
I'm with ebola on this issue *hugs wireless router, cellphone, and other wireless electronics*

Personally, if I've a choice I wont use a microwave as I do believe it causes the food to loose more nutrients than other methods of heating/cooking. I can't back it up whatsoever, it's just personal preference and I often find it comes out much better anyway even if it takes a few minutes more.
