Opioids Microwaving OPs - radiation hazard?

I didn't place this in the OP megathread because it's an important inquiry involving HR that I'm certain will not get the attention it needs there...

A promising method for defeating the new OPs calls for grinding the OP into a powder, then microwaving for 5-7 minutes, or until most of it turns golden brown. Then it is placed in the freezer for 10 minutes to re-solidify.
It now can be snorted or dissolved in water without gelling. Members of another forum attest that this method does work, and it seems the amount of oxycodone destroyed by the heat is negligible.

My only concern is the potential health risk of ingesting a substance that has been irradiated for that length of time, and the free-radicals resulting. Does anyone have insight on how worrisome this would be?
 
I don't have any good information unfortunately, but I imagine all of us have eaten food that's been nuked for longer than 5-7 minutes...
 
No you are not going to receive any radiation from something that was microwaved 5-7 minutes. If that was the case, I would have died of radiation poisoning many, many years ago.
 
Electromagnetic radiation, or light, does not impart radioactivity to matter. Even high frequency gamma radiation is used commercially to decontaminate foodstuff. "Radiation" even in the radioactive sense, is only harmful to living things. In other words, dead objects such as food, water, drugs, or whatever else can be bombed with radiation and still be safe for people to eat.

Also, the word microwave refers to a bandwidth between radio-frequency and infrared-frequency. It is not "radioactive" at all, in fact, it has a lower frequency than visible light. In fact, the microwave-frequency light emitted by your microwave is only absorbed by water molecules, and the light is converted into rotational energy of the water, which translates to vibrational kinetic energy, or "heat". Therefore, the chemicals of interest in solution, sitting in your microwave, can only be damaged by indirect heat from the water.

So if what you said is true, that the oxycodone molecules are not damaged by the microwave, then you should be fine.
