Michael Phelps hits from bong

^^ Exactly. This is great news, lets see how they try to spin this one. Seems to me this cannabis user didn't exactly end up bald, lonely and unemployed with no ambition :)
 
I feel like if this was a legit story/picture, they'd be talking about it on SportsCenter/ESPN all the time. Hope its real, but I'm definitely doubting it is.
 
I doubt he would have released an apology if it was a fake photo.

I think it's kind of lame that he did apologise though. The dude trains nonstop for years, outdoes all expectations at the highest level, then people want to rip on him because he wants to relax with a few drinks and a bong at a party? The media can fuck off on this one, fucking vultures.

Dudes, everyone has it backwards. Olympics was just training to increase his lung capacity. The real competition is back at Cramdo's dorm with the Zumo.

Well he apologized for it so it must be real. I think it's pretty awesome, I mean it would be ignorant to believe that would have been his first time getting high... it just goes to show that when used appropriately it isn't harmful. For fuck's sake, he won gold in the olympics, and next summer he's taking an apprenticeship with aquaman, so it doesn't make sense to me, what's he apologizing for again exactly? Minding his own business while everyone else can't seem to do the same? Yeah, people really need to just go home and eat cookies.

Sick, I guess the story just hasn't hit around here yet. Michael Phelps is now my favorite olympic athlete.

Edit: Just saw them debating it on 1st and 10. They acted like he was ripping a fucking crack pipe. I hope the support comes rolling in soon, so far he's just getting unfairly ripped by the media. Not that its surprising at all..

There's also the fact the newsoftheworld purchased exclusive rights, and as such whoever ratted him out probably made more money from that than anything else they've ever done.

such a bribe but honestly who the fuck cares if some college aged kid smokes pot. The media doesnt understand an athlete is a person & not a fucking robot. If anything this will draw more attention to how horrendous the drug war has become.

I'm also sure if we took muscle biopsy we would find hugely elevated levels of IGF and GH, but let the man do what he wants! Let him inject testosterone if that will help him swim fast!

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says he will charge Michael Phelps with a crime if he determines the Olympics hero smoked marijuana in Richland County.

Phelps, who set a record with eight gold medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics, was photographed smoking a marijuana pipe at a November party in Columbia.

The picture was published in the British newspaper News of the World. Phelps apologized Sunday, calling his behavior “inappropriate.”

“This case is no different than any other case,” Lott said Monday. “This one might be a lot easier since we have photographs of someone using drugs and a partial confession. It’s a relatively easy case once we can determine where the crime occurred.”

Possession of marijuana is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail or a $570 fine, plus court costs.

But Lott seems to be the only person talking about making a case against Phelps. Both the USC and Columbia Police Departments said they would not pursue charges.

It was unclear Monday where the party took place, including whether it was on campus..........................................

the picture is legit, if it was a shoop he would not have publicly apologized...plus I can tell by the pixels
