Detroit's Electronic Music Festival: Mark your calendars, book your flights / hotels and tell your friends about one of the best weekends of electronic music events in the known universe. Saturday May 26 through Sunday May 28, noon-midnight in beautiful Hart Plaza, downtown Detroit - on the riverfront. And that’s just the festival itself. With over 50 afterparties held throughout the weekend last year you no doubt will hear some of your favorite artists play, somewhere. The word on official afterparties as well as all other relevant info to help you have the best time you can in Detroit will be on the festival website (www.demf.com) as soon as it becomes available.

As for the festival itself: Movement 07 will feature performances by legendary Detroit artists Moodymann live featuring Pitch Black City; Model 500 featuring the godfather of Detroit Techno Juan Atkins; and Jeff Mills, the longtime hard hitting "wizard" of Detroit Techno.

Moodymann (Kenny Dixon Jr.) is a legendary Detroit techno/house artist known for his innovative use of reworked riffs, samples and grooves taken from the City's historically influential jazz, soul, funk and disco scene. Rarely appearing live, his headlining performance at the festival is the first show in support of his upcoming studio album and will include a full stage show with a band.

Juan Atkins, who is widely regarded as the godfather of Techno, began in the 1980s recording what stands as perhaps the most influential body of work within the genre. Model 500 will headline the main stage on Sunday at the festival, highlighting the continuing influence of his music on a global scale.

Jeff Mills is a planetary superstar of techno, an unwearied hero of mega-events and an ace of the three-deck mix; his musical touch has been a force on this city's dance scene for over 20 years. Jeff returns to Detroit to headline the festival with a main stage closing performance on Monday night.

Other 2007 special performances include German producers Booka Shade, who have earned a reputation as one of the world's most exciting live electronic music acts. Their performance at the 2007 festival will mark Booka Shade's first appearance in Detroit. Also performing live will be Octave One, featuring Detroit natives, brothers Lenny and Lawrence Burden, who have released groundbreaking underground dance anthems on their Detroit-based record label, 430 West Records.

In addition to Moodymann featuring Pitch Black City, Model 500, Jeff Mills, Booka Shade, and Octave One, the 2007 festival will feature the following artists (more artists to be announced):

gotta love getting so PLURry you dont even realize you just spent $100 trying to get drunk!

First off, would like to say fuckin a and hell ya to Bad Boy Bill, DJ Godfather, Gridlok, Hardfloor, John Acquaviva, Mistress Barbara, Richie Hawtin, Scan 7, and Stacey Pullen, this is going to be one HELL of a FUCKIN event.

Second, I think I'm going to volunteer, however, I have no where to stay, and possibly no way to get up there. I might be able to take care of getting there, but if someone could possibly help me find a place to stay, I would greatly appreciate it. I unfortunately don't have the funds for a hotel room due to a lengthy stay earlier this year at the hospital. This would be my first time attending this event, and would be kind of upset if it weren't to happen because I couldn't find a place to stay for the weekend. So, if anyone can help, I would appreciate it greatly and would do anything I could to repay the debt/favor.

hahahahahah!

Hotel Pontchartrain wants $400/night for that weekend!!!

hahahahahahahahah!

yeah, fuckin' right.

that place was barely worth it when i'd gotten it for $75 a night!

hahahahahah!

sorry.
