Mexico's deadly drug violence claims hundreds of lives in past 5 days

There is no doubt the drugs are winning, I have been and addict for 20 years and in 1980 I had to pay up to 80 dollars a gram, now on the streets of seattle I can get a gram of tar for 20 bucks. now you would think if this war was winning in the least the price would go up.

Drugs have been used for thousands of years and always will be, its sad that we must wait for the ignorant to all die off before we do as portugal and totally decriminalize all drugs.
Because of our little drug war I have wasted 7 years of my life in the state correctional facilities. I have never stolen or hurt anyone I am a totally non-violent man. Now with a felony background just try and get a real job, and how much money was wasted keeping me all those years ? I have heard its like 40,000 a year per inmate and how many more are in our prison system for non violent drug crimes? I've heard its in the millions. There are more prisons in california than colleges, what a shame this is. why cant all drugs be sold as is alcohol ? label it put explicit directions on the use of it and if the nuts want to overdose problem solved. I have used heroin for 20 years and with klonopin and never overdosed its called common sense that keeps a drug addict alive. Oh how I wish to live long enough to see drugs decriminaized but at 48 I dont thing I will make it. Sorry for the long speach but I get so pissed at our stupid laws, had i the cash to move to portugal i would be on the plane yesterday.

Easier said than done:)

I have heard it's more like 100k/year in administrative costs, prison maintenence, etc.

And another thing, most heroin addicts OD because the H they get is more potent than they thought it would be. It would be much safer if people could shoot knowing what they have is X% heroin, like they do with alcohol like you said. Sad :(

Calderon isn't taking on the cartels, he's another crook just like the rest of all the politicians. Especially the Mexican ones. He's just BSing. The truth is, most all the officials in Mexico are influenced and paid off by particular cartels. These cartels rub out smaller cartels with their government connections, and in the last few years more cartels are popping up, trying to take control over the industry. They are killing police officers that work for the cartels currently in charge in order to do so. By him taking on the cartels, he really means only the smaller cartels that are trying to take control, while the ones that grease officials get away with it. Mexico's political system is completely corrupt, from local police to the executive branch.

His lame comment about our country's drug use being the problem is nothing but a BS political distraction. If he REALLY had any fucking balls, he would say the problem is the US's prohibition, especially given the amount of consumers we have since we have an economy that is so much better than theirs. The truth is, just like every other politician in Mexico, Calderon is probably profiteering somehow from the whole war on drugs, fighting off the cartels that are trying to take over the game, while taking bribes from another. That's how it works in Mexico. You just have to realize, you can't trust ANYTHING politicians say, ESPECIALLY ones from a crooked as country like Mexico. It's all BS.

this man knows whats good, an the U.S. government knows this is how it goes down there and the only reason we arent in an all out war with them is because they are on our border and it would get too ugly so we try to keep the peace.

We are flooding the country with federal agents. If we sent troops there would be an uproar that the American gringos imperialists are invading mexico like in the days of Pancho Villa. It would turn into a big mess. It would make Iraq look like a glorious struggle for liberation in the worlds court of public opinion.

Heh, if that's what you want to believe. Mexican politics is all bullshit. More bullshit than ours. They don't want to solve the problems because they're in on the problems. All we have to do is legalize dope, and suddenly our defecit problems start getting better from all the money saved in correctional facilities, law enforcement, etc. Most people in prison are in there for drug offenses. The bottom line is something stinks here, it's 2010 I think the majority of Americans, even hardcore conservatives would be fine with reducing the deficit to end this pointless war. The only ones who would be against legalization are the really old brainwashed white people, and there's less and less around obviously since we voted a black man in as president. The bottom line is people were brainwashed a long time ago to be against drugs, and there's some crooked politics involved in why it happened. I recommend watching "How Weed Won the West". I firmly believe there's some crooked politics involved in why there has been 0 effort to end this futile war.

I want you guys to use your heads... Since the war on drugs began, there's more drugs on the streets, despite their 'efforts' to stop it. When you think about it though, the most powerful cartels have connections on this side of the border in the DEA, border patrol/customs, etc. And they help them bring big shipments in. That's why the purity continues to rise while the prices drop, and why the market is flooded with coke. It wouldn't surprise me if some major politicians are in on it. I know a lot of judges and DEA agents are crooked along the border, and it's the same with the customs and border patrol. There's border patrol agents that get busted all the time along the border

uhh i didnt say anything against any of that, i simply said that mexico is corrupt and the us would take more action if they werent on our border, i didnt deny legalization would be a good thing or say that mexican politics arent corrupt, i actually agreed that they are i dont know what you were getting at with "if thats what you want to believe".

Once colombia figures out how to cut out the middleman all this mexican violence will stop. the colombians will get some like sub-orbital smuggling ship and this'll be over. They def loosing scrilla handing over all the blow to the to the mexicans, WHO FUCK IT UP, cause its more expensive and cut with some evil now n it didn't used to be.
calderone is an ass for saying its our addicted asses problem when its the mexicanos selling the shit and he's at THE WORLD CUP. he just skipped town cause his bosses said "we cleanin house." addicts have incentive to get high n poor mexicans have incentive to get united states loot. maybe calderone is at the World CUp cause hes got incentive to be there like HIS BOSSES said GTFO and don't meddle while we right the ship biatchhh.
there r places in mexico like SINaloa where mexican police/army whatever can't ever go cause its the cartels running things over there. if there were places OCCUPIED in my country and i was the president u best believe i wouldn't b sitting down at the world cup. fuck calderone 4 makin our country a scapegoat that puppet POS
if like minesota was all of a sudden taken over by canada, what'd happen, well they'd b canadian bacon in about 1/2 a day. mexico doesn't have a population problem they've got a money problem n calderone doesn't give a shit bout murder. if calderone wasn't a puppet he'd have the US n Mexican forces fightn a real war on drugs in mexico but liberating mexicans doesn't pay like a cartel can so hes at the world cup.
we don't have blood on our hands for being rich n wanting to get high. rich is rich, poor is poor and the rest of the story is as old as time. ppl been doin what makes them money and mostly just that since money or fatter calves or trade or whatever been invented.
the real criminals r the ones who won't just sign a piece of paper n make drugs legal cause then their'd b no fat bags of cash from the PHAT profit margins making something illegal provides. al capone was the richest man ever because making booze illegal put his profit margins in the 3-4 figures. legal businesses have single digit profit margins ppl.
calderone wouldn't stop the 100 of billions of dirty money coming into his country if he was actually the boss.

Actually, there is a strip of land 60 miles from the border south of the 5 that has been in effect ceceeded to narco trafickers. Fed land. The Fish, game and wild life service has posted warning telling US citizens to stay out because it is too dangerous- fatalities with Americans getting in the way of smugglers of drugs and humans.

We can a.) send the military, a violation of posse comitatus, a sacred bulwark against the ascendency of military rule in this country

or b.) legalize, decriminalize, and otherwise end the drug war so they can stay on their side of the border and we get our land back end country back from corrupt officials on both side of the border- atleast it would be a good first step.

^ word

and the longer we wait to deal with this intelligently the more we risk an inevitable US military presence in mexico. anyone think afganistan is harder than we thought? just wait until we are using the army to fight an invisible enemy in a country RIGHT NEXT TO US. and sending billions to the mexican military so it can be skimmed by the cartels.

Fucking legalize drugs and take away all the deaths, cartels, and gangs . Why's this so hard to understand?

Honestly, the way I see it, is that a lot of people in the drug business are good people who have had to go about doing what they want to do illegally. Obviously there are sketch balls and crooks in almost every part of the world, who use one or more of almost every drug man has ever known, but a lot of people have good intentions going into this.

Whoever is willing to do what it takes to keep heroin, cocaine, meth, weed, and other drugs here, they deserve the money they are making. If it can't be made legally, it will be there illegally. Therefore, people are risking their lives, their well being, their health, and potentially years of their lives' futures just to partake in drugs, or to make a living off of them.

One way or the other, drugs will be here to stay. I agree, cocaine is not that impressive of a drug to me and people shouldn't do it, and heroin does have a great euphoria/high but it should also be majorly avoided (as both of these drugs gain a steady tolerance, encourage rapid self-administration over a short period of time, and addiction is often something people have to actively work against the more they want to just have a little fun with said drugs).

I think people should be able to partake in cocaine and heroin (and shitty Mexican brick weed if they so choose ;)) - but all this aside, it'll still be a reality. I personally don't use heroin or cocaine anymore and have no desire to use either, and I also prefer home grown bud.

As many of us have said here, legalization is the obvious answer, and no (or very very very few) politicians are either allowed to, or actually, realize this and say/do something about it.

What baffles me the most is that many people with drug charges end up with a sentence that would compare (or outlast) a sentence of a child sex offender, or a convicted rapist. This is an abhorrent practice - to stuff drug addicts in jails (like drug addiction is a communicable disease and they want to contain the disease in prisons... :|:|:X).

Finally, I think if people really wanted to curb drug use, or drug-related violence/crime, then they should pump money not into law enforcement, but into subsidizing the price of rehabilitation/detoxification. Pumping money into law enforcement is what's creating this problem in the first place, many police officers (at least where I live) ARE drug addicts/users. How is hiring these people (as state employees), giving these people guns and cars, salaries, and the right to keep 80% of drug seizures possibly a good thing? It's NOT. This is what's causing both sides (cops/law enforcement, and drug users/dealers/distributors) to waste so much money creating such a horrible societal problem.

Sad :(

Environmental tolerance plays a key role in heroin overdoses as well.

etarded knows whatsup. it's not war because there's no declaration. it's just turbulent violence because of dirty politics and a culture with a lust for mind altering substances. all of these "substances," could be grown, produced, sold and taxed in our country, which would nourish our economy and put an end to violence in the southwest. the government knows, they just have interests in arms manufacturing, oil, and fighting bad guys. i hate to say it, but i feel it will oly get worse before it gets better.

The war on drugs and the laws that back it up make my fucking brain hurt. How do people not see that this "war" has simply handed over one of the largest $$$ industries in the world to cut-throat gangsters, allowing them to become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams? Chapo Guzman (head of the Sinaloa cartel, the cartel that the mexican government doesn't fuck with) makes it in Forbes "wealthiest people in the world" every fucking year. The fact that the US uses more drugs than any other country should raise the concept of: Legalize and regulate! Are we a country led by fucking morons or what?

I'm going to sleep, will you guys wake me up when this is all over and I can go purchase my US manufactured H at Costco?
