Mexico tells US get straight about drugs

Oh, I should mention -
Afterglow, I do agree with you, they ARE being hypocritcal, however I believe they don't have much choice. Imagine it the other way, with Phillippe(sp?) *endorsing* the cartels(or a specific cartel - gets crazy either way). Sure, he'd no longer be a hypocrite, but think of what would happen? It's kind of obvious why one can believe in legalisation, as calderon obviously does, and not feel bad being a hypocrite, as being one would obviously have far worse consequences.
I see the hypocrisy in his stance(s), but I understand/get whey he does/says things this way, if that makes sense.

I wish he would have mentioned the recent article proving that we knowingly were allowing hard core weaponry to cross the boarder to keep this thing going

Mexico needs to take a harder stand on the US, whatever money we hold over there heads isn't worth the blood that is hitting the streets in that country.

Daytime hits. American weapons. Torture. Iraq Style beheadings.

And all of this, just across the Rio Grande.

no.

@ "235360287471352662": has the US given the "response/message" yet? Have the cartels responded? GG search your username, you were keeping up on that the last I checked ;)

it's on national newscasts several times a week. I'm passively keeping up: the airwaves are saturated with it.

When Kiki Camarena was killed in 1985, all hell didn't break loose. If the US didn't have agents in Mexico, they wouldn't be getting killed.

You'd think Mexicans would've had their fill of white people by 1520.

the legalization of drugs would have a devasting effect on the economy. And despite Calederon's statements, he also understands that criminalization is essential to both nation's economies.
The war on drugs pumps millions into both nation via arms sales(legal and illegal), increase public sector job in the form of law inforcement and it feeds the military and prison industrial complex.
Drug profits have a trickle down effect in every sector of both economies. From the cartels all the way to the street level dealer, everyone profits in some way from drugs. Profits= Spending= "growth" in economies. If you buy into the capitalist system it a win win situation.
The collateral damage(bodies) on both sides is just a minor cost of doing business.

People absolutely profit right now, and profit heavily. That doesn't mean the net benefit financially is a positive though. In virtually any market, once you artificially fuck with supply or demand - war on drugs doing both - total profit(utility) goes down. Simple as that.
I'll give you that the money ends in VERY different hands if legalization happens, so those who profit from the current system will lose money, and thus never allow it to happen, but overall net econ benefit is lower when it's operated by cartels and has a bajillion artificial changes to supply and demand.

the u.s. is fighting a war to keep thoooooooooousands of people emplyeed from the top of the the D.E.A. (deceive every american) down to the bitch parol officer...if the u.s. released every person involved in a drug case the system would collapse ...state and local government are funded by tax dollars from the federal government .these groups are employeeing people on many levels..i think they truely view drugs as a bad thing,,,but its a necessary evil..so its a simple choice of either half ass try to stop drugs while creating many jobs or legallize them and have alot of alpha male control freak personality types out of a job..
once upon a time in a fairy tale life a dealer realised that the furthure up the ladder he moved the closer the cops and the smugglers are,, not as enemies but allies,,,when a cop say we got a tip on this large bust , its because somebody need a much larger shipment to get somewhere,,,ill tip you off on 200 lbs. as payment to let 10,000 lbs. go by,,,,,,as for the guy that gets busted with the 200 lbs. he either crossed the wrong person or sometimes just part of the deal.....this is the cost of doing buisness......

As a person who has family living in Arkansas, who were living in Little Rock at the time Bill clinton was governer of Arkansas, I know through these relatives that Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton smoked weed, and moreso snorted cocaine, my relative who is the lawyer has a picture that has kept him out of jail, even though he lost his license to practice law after a bust in the mid 1990's of several Ounces of cocaine, over a Pound of weed, and several Ounces of Crack ,and an Ounce of Meth. How did he only lose his law license and not go to jail except for 24 hours, and do not time, and has since been arrested twice for manufacturing meth, and growing weed?! lol..The picture he has of the Clintons at a party doing coke with him in the picture with him!!! It's a real picture and I have seen it with my own eyes, I know this has nothing to do with this Mexico and drug matters in this thread, but do not think that hillary Clinton does not know all about drugs..lol..I know a dozen other people in Arkansas that have partied with bill Clinton especially and have done cocaine with him, I have seen pictures of him at their houses posing with them, they are all very wealthy people though, and only my relative the former lawyer has a picture that is a get out of jail free card...crazy to see that picture, he coulda been killed for that picture, but like a smart guy he used to be , he made copys and put them into a number of bank safe boxes, most under other people names..lol..anyway just to let you people know, lol,.,bill clinton did inhale, especailly through his nose with a rolled up hundred dollar bill, and a mound of blow on the table..lol..crazy shit..

o rly?

Okay, how do you see this panning out? Please, spare me 'too much money to make it legal wrap'. Death toll's matter.

As the number of people killed slowly climbs, Charlie Sheen won't be able to distract people. Next time, explain yourself tool.

<< this quote may not be from the original article>>
Calderon marveled that American university students tell him that most of their classmates smoke marijuana, "but one cigarette is almost a capital crime." Medical marijuana, he said, "not only opened the door" but destroyed the "perception about how dangerous the drugs are."

Go Calderon!!

See I read that as... this

Calderon: "Your taking all of my countries business away because you have legalized medical marijuana in the US and it seems like more and more Americans are growing their own dank buds to smoke and therefore cutting into the profits of my own country (Mexico)"

Fuck this guy dudes, seriously, look outside the box... its politics and this kinda talk just influences our own government in the US to make even stricter more draconian drug laws here in the US... And trust me the way the economy is going right now the Feds and State police are going to start enforcing ever single "code violation" they can possible enforce. I predict in the near future they will be taking people to jail for speeding tickets...it all comes down to money guys and when something is "illegal" it raises the price of that product by about 500 times over its true market value... WAKE UP PEOPLE! WE don't need to fix the gov't we need a NEW government!

The War on Drugs! Thank you nixon and reagan and all the other fucking dumb politicians that kept it going strong. the war on drugs is a complete slap in the face to the declaration of independence. LIFE LIBERTY PURSUIT OF HAPPINES all that other jazz that the US has completely thrown out the window. WE THE PEOPLE is fucking bullshit. war on drugs is a total slap in the face to anyone that supports individual freedom. Not to mention, a complete waste of money (drugs are just as prevalent as before), waste of prison space, and a family killing war machine. All the space in prison that is taken up by non-violent drug offenders or even drug dealers, is space that could be used to hold murderers, rapists, and thieves. I believe no one on the fucking planet can tell me what i can or cannot do with my body. Of course serious crimes that harm other people should be illegal. But even a fucking junkie tweeking ass meth head, gettin blasted in his own home, is not harming anyone other than himself. And to arrest that person would be a crime in my opinion. "but dude, my dad's a drug addict and it's pulling my family apart" well you know what? that was his fucking choice. everyone has to deal with everyone elses choices. Ugh politicians make me sick and so does the war on drugs. I believe people are starting to wake up and smell the bullshit thankfully, and I think many would agree with what i've said. Just give it time and maybe our government will start to respect such things as life liberty and the pursuit of happiness again.

Right the fuck on...As Ive stated before. War on drugs is a sector fueler in our economy. It aint going anywhere..

Calderon didn't really take a hard stand on this, as I see it. He made a lot of noise that makes people on both sides of the debate happy, yet which will accomplish nothing. Drug warriors will hail the call for more prosecution; indeed one of the prohibitionist's ideologies suggests a massive one-off surge to prosecute and incarcerate all drug users and suppliers to hell, which will supposedly end the drug war once and for all. On the other hand, the legalization crowd hails his suggestion as the obvious solution. But he knows good and well that legalization isn't "in the vocabulary" of the US, to paraphrase drug czar Kerlikowske. His statement effectively shifts blame for his amok country elsewhere, which is always good political strategy, unsurprising given he is due for reelection next year.

On the economics note, the war on drugs is a HUGE drag on the economy in every way imaginable. The people who do profit off of it do so at the expense of millions of others who pay the taxes for interdiction, prosecution, and incarceration. Locking up hundreds of thousands of people, thereby preventing them from engaging in economic pursuits, is also a huge wedge. Yes, there is money in it for some, but in a strictly financial sense, society at large is much worse off.

I absolutely agree with this article. It makes me completely sick to my stomach to see legitimately sick people being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Millions of Americans currently hold medical cards and I have not seen any pattern that indicated any serious negative social impact on society. I think its time for our government to wake up and seriously consider legalization.

Thank you, well put ;-P
There's sooooo much more money to be made with drugs, but during the market shifting from illegal to legal, the monetary effects would be
- more overall cash, but to even more people, and
- those currently making the most (whether the head of the DEA, or the head of the Zeta's or Gulf Cartels*) will not only make less, they'll essentially be out of a job, if the switch is managed right.
((*but that won't happen, so, zeta's/gulf/DEA, please don't send an assassin, send an application ;-P jk ))
What results in the overall best net-benefit both financially and socially?
OVERALL BEST situation (IMO, of course, but would like to hear thoughts on it) would be across-the-board decriminalization for possession, and regulation of the distribution networks (like beer/cigarettes - although given they run the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, one of a bajillion reasons this idea is only/can be theoretical :/ ). Turn jails/prisons into high-output work/production facilities (which they are now, except it'd cut out the "slave" element we have). Anyone who wants to go after drugs (DEA, ICE, police, etc) can/should become someone who works towards breaking the addictive cycle, helping treatment, etc. The same people who are in jail today, could work at those jails in my model, and use the money for treatment. The cash flows the same, well better actually, but everyone needs to 'switch roles'. Addicts are not criminals, they should be seen with pity and helped medically. People prosecuting addicts/users should realize this, and learn/use detox/maintenance/abstinence based approaches, not violence, incarceration based approaches. The overall financial, and social, benefits would surge. Of course, this would require a TON of people who're making lots of money due to the distorted black market will no longer get their share, and since they already have enough $, and no intention of stopping their supply of it, my model cannot happen. I'd say "sure, it could, but it'd be revolutionary", but I don't even see that as 'possible' in reality. Drugs are here to stay, both sides of the drug war know, embrace, and profit heavily from that fact. The only reasons they'd have to change mean little/nothing to them. This will remain quite similar to this for a long time, the only big change I can forsee is pot becoming less illegal. That's not in their interests either, not at all, but it's becoming too hard to suppress given that like 8 or 9 of 10 americans don't believe it's dangerous, and support medical usage. I wish it'd go further, but it won't. However, if pot's made legal - and no bias here, I actually haven't cared for pot in many years - it would do worlds for 'drug culture' in the US. It sucks, our children/teens are told pot's sooo bad, they see it's schedule I, but yet they've tried it. They know it's not so bad, in fact, it's fun. And they remember that big shiny display from the D.A.R.E. presentation, or their buddy has some powder, and they then make choices under a false paradigm of "can't be too different from pot". I can't recall how old I was exactly, but in retrospect, I am very upset that I had to sit through "drug education" in school, and still was completely unaware of the *chasms* between pot and, say, methamphetamine (generic example, have only seen meth once in my entire life). Once pot is accepted/decriminalized across the board, at least fresh-users won't be lumping the truly dangerous drugs in there with drugs lacking any real dangers (pot, many psychedelics, etc).

I think its time for our government to wake up and seriously consider legalization.
Sorry if this comes across wrong, but you need to wake up to the issue of drugs more :/
Trust me, they are fully awake - in this example, they're awake, well-rested, and on speed, with a team of knowledgable consultants.
And they do seriously consider legalization - it's just that it's considered as what it really is: a massive threat to their lives and the structures they support.
/you didn't think politics was about altruism did you? Drugs/trafficking/usage is as political as it is social, and while it's NOT that the politicians/cartels/alcohol lobbyists/whoever want to see the citizens hurt or suffer, it IS that they will accept that as a necessary evil to retain their positions.
