Mexico decriminalizes small-scale drug possession

Right, but when the cops find you with eyes dilated like olives, you can say that was just 15mcg, not however much you really took. While they're questioning you, rub the blotters in your pockets with your sweaty fingers just in case they get the idea to test them lol. And testing your blood won't be conclusive to anything dosage-wise.

That's funny. Someone like the sheriff of San Diego made an announcement immediately after this "legalization" saying that this will result in more people trying to bring back drugs into the US, especially kids on Spring Brake, lol.

Can anyone honestly think, after reading the details, that this will get more people to try to bring drugs back? I personally really don't think so...the amounts decriminalized are so small, and US laws haven't changed, why would anyone be more likely to bring drugs back, except by mistake (like you forgot them in your pocket), lol??

The maximum legal amounts considered to be for "personal use" and under the new Mexican law:
5 grams of marijuana
2 grams of opium
0.5 grams of cocaine
0.05 grams of heroin
0.04 grams of methamphetamine
0.04 grams MDMA
0.04 grams MDA
0.015 milligrams of LSD

The amounts are low - single dose for chemicals in the lower half of the list. So people will have to buy more often from their dealer to keep their possession within legal limits. But the 300 page law also gives more power to local police to arrest small time dealers. It's one step forward and two steps back. But when they see that society won't go into total chaos from legal possession of small amounts, maybe they will loosen up the law even more. Perhaps this will be a issue in the 2010 or 2012 US elections. The Democrats may support decriminalization in a bid to hold onto power.

one way to get around it is to have groups of people from a same organization buy the stuff. Allthough this would probably increase costs, like with gas and general manpower.

I think there doing this because they want more $$$ from the economy. Drugs is still the number 1 product in South America and Mexico.

This decriminalizeation was so nice when I first saw it, however it's not really what needs to be done. What needs to be done is for it to be legal to sell and produce drugs. Starting off lightly of coure, marijuana like in Amsterdam. Then shrooms and other harmless psychedelics. MDMA or opium perhaps at some point and even cocaine and benzedrine sold at every drug store. The way it was in early 1900s, before criminalization. Was there a lot of harm from drugs back then? No. Some cocaine and opiate addicts but not the way it is now with drug smugglers and drug gangs ruthlessly killing people in a never-ending war on drugs.

'Acid' is completely right. these laws are about as useful as a pen and wet piece of paper. and thats exactly what happens, regaurdless, especially if your an american. the police will rip through this law, and as many others as they can for their own gain. Being as i live here in mexico take his,and my word for it. but dont blame the fuzz, honestly. the majority are corrupt because of the way the federal government treats them, not because they want to be

i agree those are small amounts. especially the pot in my opinion 5 grams is good personal if its nug but this is mexico i dont think a 5 gram chunk of brick would make me happy. but its a step in the right dirrection.
we're fighting in a drug war where we know the other side cant win

What's with the meth amount? That's ridiculously low, coming from a country that supplies at least 80 percent of the meth in the US.

Around the year 2000 to 2003, very pure d-methamphetamine was the norm, was cheap, and easy to get all up and down the west coast. It can still be found pure occasionally. My point is, even at full potency, a decent dose is still about 0.1 grams. For personal use, swim routinely carried up to 2 grams. And yes, that goes for very pure d-methamphetamine.

TJ after decriminalization

I resurrected this thread to update people on the situation down south (of the US). Haven't been down there myself (for one I no longer actively use drugs). But I come into contact with people that go down there as a member of 12 step recovery. One of my friends a member of AA relapsed after about 4 or 5 months last weekend so he filled me in. What many people that are from countries other than mexico the letter of the law is unimportant- when it comes to how it is applied/enforced in practice. I wrote in previous posts on this thread that the new laws, atleast for non mexicans change nothing. It turns out I was wrong. I will update FDS when I get a chance to protect people from getting ripped off/ abducted- this is a serious problem down there,

So my friend is a tweeker. He went to a hotel down there. The process is you get a room and girl. Tell her you want crystal. She comes back with the meth and glass dick. The rest is up to you. There are a whole bunch of scams in between. I also herd from this guy that coke was being sold in the open in the lobby/bar and that some guys were doing it off strippers/ hookers tits- in other words its much less discreet than before.

Another interesting thing I heard is that in one part of town there was a building with a group of guys working inside. You go up and the guy asks you what you want, black tar, white, crystal, they give you a new rig with each purchase. There are actual federales outside occording to this source to make sure that no one gets ripped off, abducted, or whatever. As far as who pays them??? This source is from a new commer who is a little flacky- don't no him yet.

Bottom line is that a higher level of toleranve is clearly evident from those I've spoken to. There are also more scammers.abducters. dangerous scandalous people around is the sense I got. Will follow up on this. Basically I'm glad I'm still clean and don't have to deal with this shit. But as a die hard Libertarian, it is cool having a free city at our border for those who want that option. You can even get Nembutal (pentobarbital, yellow jackets) for fucks sake!

Glad my analysis was wrong- ever hear about the domino effect?

Hi! I live in Mexico.
If you're caught under the influence of some substance, of course you're going to be arrested and charged.
If you carry the legal dose, you will just be taken to the penalist lawyer in the preventive jail, there you will explain the situation, maybe spend a half day in a cell, and then released.
If you want to save time, you can always bribe the cops, or if you're not in the mood and they subtly suggest it, you can tell them (subtly) to fuck off, that you are carrying the legal dose and to make his job or let you go.
FYI: The Cartels do NOT have influence in the senate, maybe in the army, or police, but not in the senate, I don't think so.

Regards.
