"Darkness cannot be dissipated with more darkness.
Mexican troops have captured the son of Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, the country's most-wanted drug lord and the leader of the dreaded Sinaloa drug cartel, in a raid carried out in the central Jalisco state, the military said on Thursday.

According to the military, Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar was arrested along with an accomplice named Kevin Beltran Rios in the city of Zapopan. Both are accused of being members of the Sinaloa cartel. They were later transferred to Mexico City, and paraded in front of the media.

At the press conference held in Mexico City, Navy spokesman Jose Luis Vergara said Jesus Guzman, also known as "El Gordo" or "The Fat One," was a growing force in the Sinaloa cartel and controlled most of the cartel's "illegal drug trade between Mexico and the United States."

Incidentally, the U.S. state of Illinois had indicted Jesus Guzman on drug trafficking charges in 2009. But it is not yet clear whether Mexico will extradite him the U.S. to stand trial on those charges.

Earlier in the month, the U.S. Treasury Department had imposed financial sanctions on Jesus Guzman and his mother, Maria Alejandrina Salazar. Also, the Department had hit two other sons of Joaquin Guzman identified as Ivan and Ovidio with similar sanctions last month, thereby preventing U.S. citizens from doing business with them.

The Sinaloa cartel, based in Mexico's Pacific coast, is currently one of the most powerful organized criminal gangs in the Americas. Cartel leader Joaquin Guzman has been on the run since he escaped from a Mexican prison ten years ago.

Last year, the Forbes magazine had included Joaquin Guzman in its list of the world's richest men, reportedly worth more than $1 billion. He is believed to be hiding in the mountains in the northern state of Durango. The United States has declared a $5-million reward for information leading to his capture.

Mexico Arrests Innocent Man As Son Of Country’s Top Drug Dealer In Huge National Embarrassment
he capture of Jesus Alfredo Guzman, 26, alias El Gordo or The Fat One, had been hailed as a huge triumph by the government and the media on Friday morning.

Joaquin ‘Chapo’ Guzman, head of the Sinaloa Cartel, is Mexico’s most powerful drug dealer and is thought to have a personal fortune in excess of $1 billion. He is listed in Forbes magazine as the 55th most influential person in the world.

The man, presumed to be Chapo’s son, was seized in the early hours of Thursday in the town of Zapopan, on the outskirts of Guadalajara. He had an arsenal of rifles, pistols and grenades and about $160,000 in cash.

“This capture is the result of an intense amount of intelligence gathering over many months, combined with the sharing of information with the United States,” said Jose Luis Vergara, spokesman for the marines, who had launched the raid.

Fucking Mexican government is so corrupt, I stay on top of all the news down there, chapo has a lot of the government on his payroll
This is a huge embarrassment, I just don't know why chapo had his lawyer come out so quickly to say it wasn't his son, he should have just let this small time guy go to jail or whatever and his son would be off the radar for a while until they eventually figure it out.

But chapo was quick to call out the government and say it wasn't his son making them all look stupid and then they point the finger at the dea because supposedly the dea and the mexican marines had been working on busting chapo's son but said dea's infornmant gave them the wrong information, chaos ensues and then you have the dea and mexican government pointing fingers at each other.

So now they figure out it really isn't el chapito and they make it out like the guy was still a big cell leader down there in the Guadalajara plaza for the Sinaloa cartel, under chapo's son, so they don't look as stupid I guess

It's really messed up down there, innocent people are getting murdered, kidnapped, extorted, etc etc
The people can't even trust there local police because 9 times out of 10 they are on some cartels payroll and there has actually been accounts of the police doing the actual kidnappings and murders. The jobs down there pretty much suck and when the cartels bribe the whole local police, fed police, and who ever else it's hard to say no. They say plata o plomo which means silver or lead, put yourself in there position and tell me you'd say no

The violence will never end down there as long as there is this much corruption, something drastic needs to change for the Mexican people.

From the article trip.more cited:

Pacheco said the couple and their 1-year-old were sleeping in their home in Zapopan, a suburb of the western city of Guadalajara, when marines kicked in the door and arrested her husband and his half-brother, 19-year-old Kevin Daniel Beltran Rios.

Authorities identified Beltran Rios as an alleged member of the Sinaloa Cartel.

The men were found with a grenade launcher and four grenades, two assault rifles, two pistols and $135,000 in cash, the navy said. Pacheco said there were no drugs or guns, but the family did have the cash because of a recent home sale.

Another lawyer, Heriberto Rangel Mendez, said the government planted the weapons.
