Steven McCraw, director of the Texas Department of Public Safety, told Reuters the drug gangs have a chilling name for the young Texans lured into their operations.

"They call them 'the expendables,'" he said.

McCraw said his investigators have evidence that six Mexican drug gangs have "command and control centers" in Texas recruiting children for their operations, attracting them with what appears to be "easy money" for doing simple tasks.

"Cartels would pay kids $50 just for them to move a vehicle from one position to another position, which allows the cartel to keep it under surveillance to see if law enforcement has it under surveillance," he said.

"Of course, once you're hooked up with them, there's consequences."

ugh, this rustles my jimmies. Its bad enough i can't find a job, now i read this? Kids these days.....there goes the neighborhood, texas is surely fucked one would think:\

LOL its the omg what about the children media ploy. Well legalize the drug game and those kids could, well be on welfare instead I guess?

Minors sell a good portion of the drugs in many American cities. This is not something that's unique to the cartels.

Minors are less likely to use the shit themselves and they get released from jail a lot quicker.

You forgot the best reason.... Once they turn 18 record CLEAN....

These are both good reasons. I don't think the cartels care either way, but numbers is right, this isn't anything new.

The drug cartels are utterly ruthless. If you would use puppies to transport dope why not the most innocent and vulnerable of us? They are perfect victims - they love that you are paying attention to 'em and they believe everything you say.

I can't believe the news is surprised? The cartels have been running the streets of Texas for awhile now. Least 5+ years. IDK about DFW, but they run San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and especially the border all the way from El Paso to South Padre Island. And they have been using kids...

These stories seem to be controlled-release right for when they want to send more troops and federal agents to go protect the same cartels causing the fucking problems.

Bunch of drug-war loving hypocrites helping the drugs in. The only reason they don't speak out is because they will all lose their jobs the entire federal police state with the DHS checkpoints is all about price control by regulating the flow of drugs onto the streets.

The feds cannot win the war on drugs, and have no interest in winning it, because they would all lose their jobs. And good luck finding whistle-blowers in this economy...

Hey the big banks don't give a fuck. They are just opening up more branches along the border. Bye bye small banks hello money-laundering government-protected mega-banks, and bank-owned prison-worker slavery.

Here is a novel idea (lol). LEGALIZE LEGALIZE LEGALIZE! Imagine all the money that can be had on taxing everyone's fix!
