Methylphenidate and ADHD

I was diagnosed at a young age with ADHD, I recently (yesterday) started snorting my emergency ritalin, my prescription is concerta and has been for a while now. A friend said I won't speed because I have ADHD. Is this true? If so, why doesn't it affect people with ADHD the same way it affects others?
 
Everyone has different brain chemistry. You're not going to get a noticeable high from a medication that you NEED to function normally.

I don't get high from my clonazepam (even taking as much as 8mg), I just mellow out more-so.

This is really basic in terms of the drugs' mechanisms of action.

AFAIK, Concerta = ethylphenidate, Ritalin = methylphenidate (some people prefer one or the other, I've only tried Ritalin before and all it did was keep me awake until I stopped doing lines of it).

they make ER and SR and LA methylphenidates i think that Pjkt2501 was correct on the ethyl and methyl. thanks for clearing that up pj i was about to google what ethylphenidate was after reading a different post.

Why? What can happen exactly?

I've also noticed that throughout the years i've been able to stay calm after my meds wear off (and they've been getting weaker as I was getting older and bigger)
 
I don't think it contains ethylphenidate at all. Maybe dexmethylphenidate, but I doubt ethylphenidate. Could be wrong though.
 
My mistake, They are both methylphenidate as per both Wolframalpha and NLM. Just different brands.
 
Have you tried snorting Concerta? I have a few and I'm tempted. I've only tried Ritalin and Adderall.
 
I recommend amphetamine (adderall, vyvanse, dexedrine) for adults with ADD and ADHD. Methylphenidate seems to lack a large amount of the positive effects that amphetamine provides the user with. Amphetamine is generally known to have fewer harsh side effects. However this is very dependent on the user.

Dexmethylphenidate is focalin.

Concerta is in a sealed, glued, hard capsule with its contents glued and gummed together. Undoing this would require a chemical break down and in the end it would not be worth the effort.
 
I stand corrected, my apologies folks.

For some reason I had it in my mind that one was the methyl and the other ethyl. However ethylphen is a RC currently I believe, so that's clearly not right.

Sorry for the misinformation everyone. NT is correct about which preparations contain methylphenidate.
 
From my own personal experience, Concerta 'capsules' (cylindrical tablets really) are extremely industrial. They can often be found in the patients stool, if taken orally, fully (as far as I can see :P ) intact.

edit: also as for the breaking up of the concerta, I found this: The extended-release features of a Concerta pill must be bypassed in order to snort it effectively. One way to accomplish this is to place a pill in water for a few minutes and then completely rub off the outer coating of the pill. Next, cut the pill in half, save the white half and throw away the gray half. Secure the pill with pliers or tweezers and carefully remove the waxy outer coating using a razor blade. What remains of the pill can be crushed/shaved and snorted.
